Lionsgate released the first trailer of Brian Cox starrer biopic Churchill. The film is based on the life of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and important events in the history of United Kingdom. He was one of the legendary political icons who led the country through the difficult times of World War II. The first look of the film has a brutally honest appeal and is set in the authentic backdrop of that era.
First Look Of Lionsgate Film Churchill
Churchill is directed by The Railway Man fame director Jonathan Teplitzky. It begins from the eve of the D-Day June 1944 when almost a million soldiers secretly assemble on the Southern coast of Britain. They are planning to invade Europe areas occupied by Nazi’s. But the Allied forces wait for the decision of former British Prime Minister whether to go ahead or not.
There lies a fear and dilemma in the situation of Churchill who has to decide the fate of his land and people. At that time they were already hit by depression and the mass slaughter of 1915 on the beaches of Gallipoli. It was a crucial decision which perhaps could have hit back on him. He was opposed by political rivals General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery. But, his wife Clementine played by Miranda Richardson stand strong with him throughout (Via Slashfilm).
Cast members also include James Purefoy (as King George VI) and John Slattery (as Dwight Eisenhower) Julian Wadham, Richard Durden and Ella Purnell. Additionally, the star-studded film is going to feature Brian Cox’s character Churchill in the heroic shades. Indeed the former politician played a big role in the Allied invasion and the later events.
Another Winston Churchill Biopic Titled As Darkest Hour
Darkest Hour is directed by Pride & Prejudice director Joe Wright. The film is set in the initial days of Second World War when he was trying to bring together his countrymen against Adolf Hitler’s army. The Nazi’s were then unstoppable while invading half of Europe.
Both the films feature two different sides of the same person in different years of his life. Both of these events were path-breaking in the history that changed the course of their fate. Gary Oldman is starred in the role of Winston Churchill in the Wright’s directorial. It will be ready to come out on 29 December 2017 in the United Kingdom.
Churchill is slated to be released on June 2, 2017, in North America. However, it will open in theaters of Britain on June 16, 2017.
