Given that nothing is always as it seems on the political CBS drama “Madam Secretary,” the winter finale of the second season left fans hanging and wondering as to what will happen next to Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni). Also, it caused several characters to cross a line that should never be crossed, leaving fans to wonder how the American, Ukranian and Russian conflict will be truly solved. WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for “Madam Secretary” Season 2 Episode 11 “Unity Mode.”

The winter finale of the second season of “Madam Secretary,” “The Greater Good,” left fans at the edge of their seats as everything came to a head during the peace talks at Geneva.

First off, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister wasn’t that happy with what went down, and Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) crossed a line that might just affect her relationship with her husband, Dr. Henry McCord (Tim Daly). Justifying that it was done for “the greater good,” she and United States President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine) gave up the name of Henry’s asset, Captain Dimitri Petrov (Chris Petrovski), in exchange for the hostilities to end.

This caused Henry to go home using a commercial flight, while Elizabeth, along with the other foreign dignitaries, became targets of an attack, in which a man dressed up in a military uniform fired a rocket at them. However, just as the man fired, the scene faded to black, and the only thing that could be heard was something exploding.

Thankfully, TV Line reports that executive producer Barbara Hall has promised that fans and viewers will immediately discover who the attack was aimed at and who survived the attack, when the show resumes on January 10, 2016.

According to the official CBS press release that was shared on Spoiler TV, the upcoming episode, “Unity Mode,” will see Elizabeth dealing with the fallout of the attack, and will find her trying her best to make sure that the deal that they just brokered with Russia will fall through.

Based on this fact, it is safe to say that Elizabeth herself will be spared a tragic death on the show.

Also, the release shared the fact that Elizabeth will also be asked to deal with an emergency at the International Space Station, which is why fans and viewers will once again see the character of Glenn (John Pankow) around the State Department.

Who do you think died? Who do you think survived? At whom do you think the attack was aimed at? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
