In just a few more days, the new fall television season will begin in full swing, as most of the returning shows and new television shows will be premiering next week. Among those that will be premiering this Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, is the new CBS show, “Madam Secretary,” at 8:30 p.m. It will have an encore telecast the same night at 10:30 p.m. WARNING! This article contains spoilers for the pilot episode of “Madam Secretary.” Read on only if you want to learn more about this episode.

“Madam Secretary” follows former CIA analyst turned professor Elizabeth McCord, who is portrayed by actress Tea Leoni, as she tries to balance her new duties as Secretary of State and her personal life. She is asked to become the new Secretary of State by the President of the United States himself, after the former Secretary of State died. However, unlike most politicians, she does not go by the book and does things her own way. This maverick attitude of hers makes her clash often with the President’s Chief of Staff, Russell Jackson (Zeljko Ivanek).

According to Spoiler TV, her staff at the White House includes her assistant Blake Moran (Erich Bergen), her Chief of Staff Nadine Tolliver (Bebe Neuwirth), her speechwriter Matt Mahoney (Geoffrey Arend) and Daisy Grant (Patina Miller), her press coordinator.

The newly appointed Secretary of State will be seeing some action right away. Aside from the various political challenges that she encounters every day at her workplace, she has to handle an international hostage crisis. This becomes a challenge for Elizabeth McCord, as she ignores the President’s Chief of Staff and does everything in her power to be able to solve the crisis. However, this is not the only tough situation she has to deal with, as she begins to question her decision to become the new Secretary of State as her children, Jason (Evan Roe) and Alison (Kathrine Herzer), are having some difficulties in adjusting to their new school.

CBS, according to Enstarz, has also just released a new promotional video featuring “Madam Secretary” and another hit television show, which airs right after “Madam Secretary” — “The Good Wife.”
