What could be more intriguing than a show that packages porn, prostitution, the covert nightlife, drugs, pimps, corruption, and the mob? Wonder no more and read on for more details.

Digital Trends reports that HBO has included yet another star to the forthcoming pilot “The Deuce”. With James Franco set to play two characters, he will bring life to the role of twins who were greatly involved in the industry at that time, and actually became fronts for the mob.

Production is now proud to announce that it will also feature Academy Award nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal (“The Dark Night”, “Happy Endings”, “The Honorouable Woman”) as its female lead. She is also set to produce, as well as Franco.

Gyllenhaal will star as Eileen Merrell, also known by her street name, “Candy,” a prostitute and up-and-coming businessperson who will be drawn into the developing porn industry.

Playing the part of a sexually liberal character isn’t unfamiliar territory for Gyllenhaal. She previously starred in “Secretary”, a black comedy that studied a relationship involving BDSM (B&D: Bondage & Discipline, D&S: Dominance & Submission, and S&M sadomasochism).

According to Variety, creator David Simon (“The Wire”) and collaborator George Pelecanos are also executive producing alongside Nina K. Noble, Richard Price, and Michelle MacLaren (who is also directing). Instrumental in documenting the era, is Marc Henry Johnson, who will also be one of the pilot’s producers. Pelecanos and Simon formerly worked together on other HBO series, “Treme” and “The Wire.”

Amid its extraordinary production and promising plot, it will be outrageous if “The Deuce” does not get succeeding episodes, or better yet, develop into a full series.

A release date for the pilot is yet to be revealed, but filming is set to start this October in New York.
