‘Magic Mike XXL’ Takes on ‘Terminator: Genisys’ At The Box Office

It’s the fourth of July weekend and people in the United States are looking to have fun. This is the big summer weekend for all the moviegoers and movie fans will be looking to celebrate the independence day with some popcorn and soda in the theatres. It only remains to be seen whether the new movies will sink or swim with the summer rush at the box office. We here in the land down under will probably join in the fun too.

The first movie to compete for the audience’s attention is “Magic Mike XXL.” This Channing Tatum starrer is big on dancing. In fact, people are calling it an all out dance flick and given Channing Tatum’s prowess at dancing, this will obviously draw the young crowd. Fox News reports that “Magic Mike XXL” fares fairly well at Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer. Matt Atchity from rottentomatoes.com told them that it was given a 59% on the Tomatometer and might still climb to get a fresher rating.

The other movie to compete for the box office draw is the fifth installment of the Terminator series, “Terminator Genisys.” Arnold Schwarzenegger is back and has the audience’s attention despite his age and appearance changing his looks significantly. The story writers were smart enough to use this fact as a part of the story. The Terminator for this sequel is actually created out of ageing human tissue and that is why the new Terminator looks like he has aged. We hope that the idea works and the fans buy it.

The movie is released in 2D and 3D. But even the 2D screens will draw in crowds as the visuals work well even with 2D. The movie has a complicated plot which sort of unravels towards the end and audiences don’t seem too pleased about it. Matt Atchity from rottentomatoes.com gives it a 25%. But it might still pull its socks up and get back in the game.
