The Wrap announced that Disney is looking into creating a “Maleficent” sequel. It was especially after its record-breaking success in 2014. The movie has earned a total of $758.41 million in domestic and foreign releases. It makes it no surprise that the company is looking into the possibility of a sequel happening in the near future.
The outlet cited that the screenwriter for “Maleficent,” Woolverton is being tapped to write another screenplay for the sequel. Woolverton. However, she will only write for the sequel under one condition, Jolie must reprise her role as Maleficent.
While several news outlets have differing opinions on whether or not Jolie will reprise her role as Maleficent if the sequel really comes into the picture, USA Today pointed out that the 40-year-old wife of Brad Pitt has previously considered the idea.
“Possibly. I don’t know. I enjoyed it. I just feel like we did this one thoroughly and I don’t think there’d be another,” Jolie said.
Cinema Blend, on the other hand, is optimistic that Jolie will reprise her role in “Maleficent 2.” The outlet cited previous statements from the actress saying that the character has always been her childhood favorite.
