Jay Baruchel (“How to Train Your Dragon 2”) will star in an upcoming comedy adapted from the book “The Last Girlfriend on Earth,” which is written by Simon Rich, who used to work on “Saturday Night Live.” Dubbed “Man Seeking Woman” for television, the show is slated to run in 2015 on FXX. The story of “Man Seeking Woman” explores a single man’s dating life with a twist of the hilarious and the ludicrous. The central character, Josh Greenberg (Baruchel), is described as romantic, naive and desperate for love.

As the book’s author, Rich will also be involved in the TV show, penning the pilot episode that will also star Maya Erskin (“Betas”), Eric Andre (“Don’t Trust the B– in Apartment 23”) and Britt Lower (“Unforgettable”). He will also serve as the showrunner, while Jonathan Krisel (“Portlandia”) has been tapped to direct the first episode.

“Simon Rich has delivered a wholly original, hilarious and fantastical view of single life that features an incredible performance from Jay Baruchel,” said Nick Grad, FX’s president of original programming, in a press release as published in Variety. He further said that “Man Seeking Woman” fits perfectly into FXX’s programming. Originally developed for FX, the show was moved to FXX, where 10 episodes have been ordered.

On September 2, 2013, FX launched FXX as a basic cable network targeting the young adult audience. The channel is home to cult comedies like “The League” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” The channel is also under the 21st Century Fox banner.

According to Variety, the network is also in talks with Tracy Morgan for a comedy project. Production for this will resume as soon as the comedian has fully recovered following his accident.

The inclusion of “Man Seeking Woman” should fill the void that will be left by “Wilfred,” as it concludes on the network in July 2014, after five seasons.

And that’s the latest news on “Man Seeking Woman,” which will be coming to FXX in 2015. Are you excited to see Jay Baruchel as lead for this series? Follow more updates about this show only here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
