Previously on “You Always Hurt The Ones You Love,” several remarkable scientists were brought together to live in a secluded location in Los Alamos, New Mexico. They were recruited to take part in a top-secret government project under the watchful eyes of Dr. Robert Oppenheimer (Daniel London).

Their love for science led them to contribute in the invention of the atomic bomb, which could be the key in winning the World War II. Unfortunately, their dedication at work also started to strain their own personal lives.

One of which was the family of Frank Winter (John Benjamin Hickey), who was recruited by Glen (Daniel Stern) despite his attitude. His angst-ridden aura became a problem when he slowly alienates his relationships with Liza (Olivia Williams) and their daughter, Callie (Alexia Fast). On the other hand, Liza’s work and expertise in Botany might be helpful as she noticed several bizarre changes in their surroundings.

Charlie (Ashley Zuckerman), his other colleague, arrived with his young wife. He had to swear to keep the project a secret. He even gave false information to his wife, Abby (Rachel Brosnahan), who later shared his “project” with the other spouses. He signed up under the second camp of Dr. Reed Akley (David Harbour) and his high-tech tools.

Frank found a problem early on within his group. He caught Sid Liao (Eddie) smuggling some of their patent plans to sell them after the project. The young scientist admitted that he had valid reasons for doing it. Frank learned that Sid had a sick baby at home, and he needed a lot of money for the treatments. In the end, Frank chose not to alert their leaders about it.

The episode ended with Oppenheimer choosing “Thin Man” from Akler over Winter’s project. It was revealed that the said project was previously abandoned before. Later, Winter’s camp was thoroughly searching for Liao’s case. Lia, who got drunk during the fourth of July celebration, was forcibly taken for the investigation.
