World champion professional boxer Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao has said that he wants a rematch with Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. as early as next year. Will it happen? Read on for more details.
Pacquiao was visiting Japan to participate in the World Basketball Conference and invite the World Cup event in the Philippines. When asked about his future plans, Manny Pacquiao (real name Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao) said that he wants to focus on being a politician, but expressed his desire for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“I’ll be ready for that mentally and physically next year. I’ll show a better performance against him than in the first encounter,” the 32-year-old boxing champion told Fight News in an interview.
Pacquiao also commented on Mayweather Jr.’s bout with boxer Andre Berto, 31, saying it is going to be a good fight. He noted Berto as a fast and strong fighter, stating that Berto has a chance to win against Mayweather Jr.
About his previous fight with Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao belived he should have been the one declared as the winner. He stated that Mayweather Jr. was just running almost all throughout the 12-round fight while he kept chasing him for a slug.
It could be recalled that boxing fans were disappointed about the whole match due to the way the fight transpired until the end. Various sports columnists also expressed their dissatisfaction as their expectations on the “Fight of the Century” were not met.

Fight judges unanimously declared Mayweather Jr. as the winner of the “Fight of the Century,” which managed to rake a record-breaking 4.4 million pay-per-view buys. Almost every fan in the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino booed at Mayweather Jr. after the fight.
Pacquiao then disclosed that he had an injury at his shoulder. This led two Las Vegas residents file lawsuit against the Filipino boxer, his manager, and Top Rank because they felt they were deceived by not revealing his injury before the fight.
While Pacquiao may be eyeing for second a fight with Mayweather Jr., Amir Khan, 28, is not closing the door for a possible fight between him and Pacquiao. He told Boxing News that it could be the next.
“Listen, the Manny Pacquiao fight has been talked about and could happen early next year – that could be next,” Amir Khan said.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is yet to issue an official statement about a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.
