“Avengers: Age of Ultron” star Mark Ruffalo graced the Golden Globe Awards and expressed how he felt about the latest addition to their Marvel Cinematic Universe with Benedict Cumberbatch setting to play Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
Last year, lots of names were associated with the eponymous role of Doctor Strange. Joaquin Phoenix came so close to landing the multiple contract deal with Marvel. Even “John Wick” star Keanu Reeves was being considered to play the Sorcerer Supreme. There were also rumors of Colin Farrell being eyed to take it, but it all turned out to be humors. As Marvel had it, none of those names emerged to land the titular role, and things went to a standstill. Everything went quiet in the search for the next actor to play Doctor Strange, but that turned out to be a front to the ongoing negotiations of the studio pursuing their prime choice for the role — BBC’s “Sherlock” actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Everyone was thrilled to find out that he will finally be the actor to play the role of Doctor Strange after a long wait time and looks like the fans and the studio are not the only ones excited for him to play the role. Central star of the upcoming “Avengers: Age of Ultron” Mark Ruffalo expresses his excitement on it as well.
The actor expressed his excitement for the on-screen Sorcerer Supreme during the Red Carpet portion of the Golden Globes with MTV’s Josh Horowitz. When asked about his opinion regarding Golden Globe Award nominee Cumberbatch joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor was all smiles in conveying his excitement that he thinks it’s “great and amazing” and that “it’s a good combination.”
The “Now You See Me” star then admitted that he doesn’t know the man behind all the titles just yet. But despite the fact that he doesn’t know the “Imitation Game” star completely, he still thinks of him as a good actor.
“I don’t know him very well yet but he’s really good. He’s not doing so bad,” Ruffalo explained.
Ruffalo is currently juggling the promotions for “Avengers: Age of Ultron” while also filming “Now You See Me 2.” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” opens on May 1, 2015 and “Doctor Strange” is plotted for the theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
