Married” Season 1 Episode 5 “The Playdate” aired on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at 10:00 p.m. on FX. One of Russ and Lina’s daughters has a hard time in school. The teacher recommended interaction with other kids outside of the school environment, such as joining a playdate, and the couple wasn’t thrilled about the idea. Read on to know what happened in this episode.

“Playdate” opened with Russ (Nat Faxon) and Lina (Judy Greer) discussing about their sex life. You’d think there were in a therapist’s office, but they were actually at a parent-teacher meeting with one of their daughter’s teachers. Their child, Maya, was having problems socially and so the teacher said joining a playdate would help.

Despite their hesitation and seeing that they don’t really know any other family with kids, Russ and Lina decided to find a family among Maya’s soccer playmates. The ended up with a soccer mom they weren’t really happy to have a playdate with, but do they have any other choice?

The family arrived at the house on the day of the playdate. It was big and beautiful, and also slightly familiar according to Russ, but he couldn’t figure out where he has seen it. The Soccer Mom (played by Michael Watkins), surprised that they actually came, asked all of them to stay over, and they also met her husband and their 12-year old son. As the girls played in the pool, Russ and Lina made small talk with the parents and realized why Soccer Mom was so eager to have guests in her house. She was kind of awkward and didn’t have any other adult friends, too. Her husband was also a bit of a stickler with rules and order.

Russ was exploring the house and ended up finding a laptop, which belonged to the 12-year old. Lina found him googling for porn on it, because apparently, the reason why he was so familiar with the house was because it’s been in a porno movie. But he couldn’t access anything on the computer because pornographic content was being blocked. Later, the father confessed to Russ that he’s having problems with his 12-year old, who has been accessing porn again. (It was Russ this time!) He sought advice from Russ on how to deal with pre-teen boys and Russ could only agree to whatever he said. Russ later talked to the 12-year old, whom he was warming up to better than his dad. The two hangout for the rest of the playdate.

Meanwhile, forced to bond with Soccer Mom, Lina actually found out that she’s crazy, wacky and kind of fun. They snuck into the neighbor’s house, who were on a trip to Australia, took a bottle from their expensive wine collection and used their spa, before sneaking out again.

That day, while their daughters bonded with other children their age, Russ and Lina also made friends. They both realized that finding other people outside of their family and small social circle wasn’t bad at all.

On the flipside to this episode, Jess (Jenny Slate) and her husband Shep (Paul Reiser) were supposed to have brunch with AJ (Brett Gelman), and Shep was pretty excited about the food they were going to eat. However, when they got to AJ’s house they couldn’t leave for the restaurant, because AJ’s date, a 19-year old, was having a breakdown and locked herself in the bathroom. It took a while for Shep to finally convince her to come out, but when they got to brunch, it was already too late for Shep to have those egg frittatas.

And that’s what happened in this week’s episode of “Married” Season 1 Episode 5 “The Playdate,” which aired on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014 at 10:00 p.m. on FX. Come back for more recaps and updates about this show only here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
