Married” Season 1 Episode 4 “Uncool” aired on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on FX. Russ and Lina are broke, and they have to come up with the money for the dental needs of one of their daughters. Find out what solutions this longtime couple came up with in this episode of “Married.”

The lady at the clinic refused to let Lina (Judy Greer) and her daughter see the dentist unless they settle their debt with the bookkeeper. The only way they can get their daughter’s braces tightened is if they would be able to pay for it. They owe the dentist about $5,000.  Lina and Russ (Nat Faxon) had to come up with the money, or else, those braces would just be metal pieces on her teeth.

Russ needed to track down a client who has yet to pay him for the art rendition he did for a banner, while Lina took up on their friend Jess’ offer to help her with her resume, which she offered in the episode “The Shower.”.

While building her resume with Jess (Jenny Slate), Lina realized that she had no more relevant work experience, having given up her job to tend to her kids. Her biggest feat in the last few years was flying on a plane with her three kids. That’s tough for anyone to endure, right?   Could she put that in her resume? Jess said that while it was a “baller move,” it was not something for the resume. Lina thought that maybe she should just start her own business, like design her own jewelry or offer calligraphy.

Jess: “Those aren’t real jobs.”

Lina: “Yeah, they are.”

Jess: “No, they’re not. Those are rich white girl hobbies.”

Lina: “I’m…white.”

Jess: “That’s about it.”

Jess asked about her old job. Lina was apparently a VP for payroll, and Jess wondered if she would consider going back to it. With some hesitation, she agreed to a lunch meeting with her former boss.

Before going to the meeting, Lina and Jess shopped for clothes, and Lina felt that this wasn’t going the way it should be. She couldn’t even find the right work clothes.  When it was time to meet with her former employer, Lina, Jess and AJ (Brett Gelman) were all in the car, waiting for Lina to get off. But she asked AJ for a favor first: Could he look for her old boss inside the office and maybe check if his breath still smell bad? That was really a huge concern for Lina.

AJ found Lina’s boss and followed the guy to the men’s room. In the most awkward manner ever, AJ tried to smell his breath. But he got punched on the nose instead because the guy thought he was being harassed. AJ ran back to the car, and the boss followed him, so he saw that the guy harassing him was actually with Lina. Lina could only mutter “I quit!” to her boss, and Jess drove the car fast away from the building, leaving Lina’s boss wondering what just happened. Lina’s face as Jess sped off was inexplicable. Was she regretting that she blew her interview, or did she realize that this was not the right time, nor the right job, for her?

Meanwhile, Russ sought the help of Bernie (John Hodgman), a friend and business contact, to look for their client named Doogie, a fraternity treasurer at a nearby university where Russ did a job for. When they got to the frat house to hopefully collect money, they were greeted by this short guy, who told them that Doogie has not been around for a while. It is the midterms, a stressful time at the university.

They went to talk to another college kid, who told them that Doogie was hooking up with “skanks” at this particular dormitory.

Bernie: “They have a whole dorm for skanks?”

College kid: “You know, girls, chicks…”

Russ: “All girls are skanks here?”

College kid: “It’s college!”

So off they went to the women’s dorm where they talked to one of Doogie’s girlfriends, who was apparently quite upset with him for something he did to her sexually. It was information the older guys didn’t need to know. Anyway, they asked the girl to come with them and find Doogie.

When they got back to the frat house, it turned out that Doogie was the first guy they asked from. Russ confronted him for lying to them, as well as for disrespecting his girlfriend, and Doogie just acted cool. Russ, meanwhile, was way uncool and rambled off that Doogie still owed them money. He threw a beer keg at the glass door and broke it. But instead of getting alarmed that some crazy old guy was going ballistic at Doogie, the college kids cheered him on.

Later that night, Russ came home and gave Lina some money, which he apparently was able to collect from the frat house. It wasn’t enough to cover their daughter’s braces, so Russ instead took her daughter to a different orthodontist. He was Hispanic and seemed inexperienced, but what the heck, Russ and Lina were able to save money on the braces adjustments!

By the way, here are AJ and Bernie giving their two cents worth to Russ about the cost of braces:
