Married” Season 1 Episode 7 “Waffles & Pizza” aired on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at 10:00 p.m. on FX. Russ and Lina were looking for a new place. AJ was getting serious with the perfect girl. Jess’ boss asked her to do something critical. What could possibly go wrong with all these scenarios? Read on to learn more in the recap below.

While having breakfast, Russ (Nat Faxon) and Lina (Judy Greer) were surprised that their landlord decided to do an open house. What kind of landlord would not tell the tenant about this in advance? The house hunters were already there, prying into their private space. Russ wondered if Lina hid all her junk, like her vibrator. They heard from one of the guests that the house is crap. This made them realize that it may be time to look for a new house. Lina wanted something to own. She was tired of renting.

And so the house hunting started. Even when they met with AJ (Brett Gelman) and her new date, Cynthia, who is of age and definitely more into AJ’s league (as opposed to the 19-year-old he used to date in the episode “Playdate”), Lina was actively checking for house listings on her phone. But guess what? Cynthia may be selling hers as part of her divorce settlement!  Russ and Lina went to her place the next day to check it out.

Cynthia’s property had a beautiful family home — the kind that would be lovely to raise three daughters. But it’s too big and way out of Russ’ range. They did the math, and Russ was sure they couldn’t afford it. AJ offered to help out with the payment, but there was another problem — AJ wasn’t really sure if Cynthia’s divorce was moving forward.

Lina loved the house. Russ didn’t. It ruined Cynthia’s marriage. Lina couldn’t sleep thinking about it, and Russ felt that he’s such a loser because he cannot afford to give his family a house.

Lina: “You’re not a loser because you can’t afford anything. You’re a loser for a different reason.”

They visit Cynthia again on the guise that they were worried for AJ in the relationship when really, what Lina wanted to know was that if the house was already up in the market.

Cynthia’s husband called her up while she had guests, and they heard how they fought. Lina was convinced they were going to divorce for sure.  But she wanted more information, so she asked one of her daughters to do recon and fish out more family secrets from Cynthia’s daughter. But there wasn’t anything significant Lina learned to assure her that the divorce was pushing through so they could have the house.  However, she find out that Carl was sleeping on the couch sometimes, and Lina took that to mean that the marriage is really over. Russ thought his wife was beyond crazy, but in Lina’s defense, she was just making sure that an opportunity like this won’t slip away.

Later, AJ was visited by one of Cynthia’s friends to tell him that she’s getting back with Carl and that it’s over between them. AJ did not see that coming, and so did his friends. They totally missed all the signs. So among other things, the house was no longer up for grabs.

That night, Russ couldn’t sleep. He was feeling really bad about not making enough money to provide for what Lina wanted. Lina said that she should get a job, but Russ promised her that he was going to bust his ass working. However, Lina assured her husband that it was going to be okay.

Lina: “Houses are a lot of work. Let’s face it, we’re renters.”

On the flipside to this episode, Jess (Jenny Slate) was called in by her boss for a critical meeting. She thought it was work-related, like a promotion. But her boss only wanted her to score cocaine for him. At first, Jess thought that it was cool he asked her to get the drugs because her boss was thinking that she has all these hook-ups. But talking to her dealer, who was no longer in the business by the way, she realized that her boss doesn’t respect her and only thinks of her as a hustler.

So,Jess marched up to her boss to tell him that she has no more sources for this kind of thing. She also right away told him that she found this task offensive. She got a promotion by the end of the episode.
