Marry Me” Season 1 Episode 10 “Spoil Me” aired on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at 9:00 p.m. on NBC. It’s TV night at Annie and Jake. But when they discover that one of them secretly watched their favorite show ahead of the other, a huge fight erupts. Find out what happened in this episode in the recap below.

Annie (Casey Wilson) and Jake (Ken Marino) prepare to watch their recording of the finale of their favorite TV show, “The Moors,” that night. They sit on their bed with their TV snacks ready. They’re wearing matching shirts with The Moors inscribed on it, and they briefly discuss and toast their love for the series before hitting the remote.

But they get the surprise of their life when the TV screen shows that “The Moors” DVR has been tagged as recently watched. Accusations are thrown at each other, with each one claiming they did not watch the finale yet. They declare that this argument is something that they won’t settle so easily. They will get to the bottom of it, as someone is clearly lying.

Over dinner with Annie’s gay fathers, the couple tells them what happened and Kevin 2 (Dan Bucatinsky), who’s also passionate about couples watching TV together, declares this as an act of betrayal. But then, he also suggests that perhaps one of their friends watched the show without their knowledge, especially since their friends have keys to the apartment. So that must be it! Annie and Jake breathe a sigh of relief. But who among their friends did it?

Outside, Dennah (Sarah Wright) casually introduces her new steady boyfriend, police officer Gary and her partner, Officer Laguna Matata, to Gil (John Gemberling) and Kay (Tymberlee Hill). She thinks that it’s getting serious with Gary, and she thinks that dating a cop is the coolest. She gets to enjoy the perks, especially when parking.

Back in the apartment, since they’re no longer at war regarding who watched “The Moors,” Jake bonds together with Annie to ask their friends to fess up. But Dennah says she watches television on her phone, while Kay doesn’t like “The Moors” because it’s saturated, and it’s everywhere. Gil is not a TV watcher, and besides, why would they lie about watching a show?

Dennah suggests getting a lie detector test from her boyfriend Gary. But is this really want Annie and Jake want? It seems so extreme. Annie, however, is determined to settle the matter, so the girls step out to make arrangements with Gary. Once they are gone, Jake makes a confession to Gil: he’s already seen the finale without Annie, and he’s going to be so busted!

In the privacy of the bathroom, Jake tells Gil that he watched the episode by accident. He got sucked in while watching some promo about it. So, what’s he supposed to do to pass that lie detector test? Gil thinks telling the truth would be the best; it’s only a TV show. But Jake knows that Annie is also lying because, while he did watch “The Moors,” he did not watch it at home. But their DVR indicated that it has been accessed, so that can only be Annie. Gil suggests to let Annie take the lie detector test first. If she fails, then he’s saved.

Dennah’s cop boyfriend is at the apartment with the detectors all set up. But it’s a good thing he and his partner brought two of these machines, so that Annie and Jake can take the polygraph test together.

Meanwhile, Gil didn’t realize that Officer Laguna Matata is flirting with him, so Kay brings this to his attention. When Laguna leaves, he runs after her and for the first time since his divorce, he asks a woman for a date. She says yes.

Back at the apartment, they begin the tests and so far, Annie and Jake are coasting through the first few questions to establish if the machines are working. But when asked, “Did you watch The Moors?” and they reply “No,” Jake’s polygraph goes off hard. He makes his case, saying the question is ambiguous as he watches “The Moors” all season, including the finale episodes of the previous seasons. So technically, he does watch “The Moors.”

So, Annie specifically asks, “Did you watch the fourth season finale of ‘The Moors’ on our DVR?” Jake confidently answered “No.” As he told Gil in secret, Jake didn’t specifically watch this on their DVR. He passes the lie detector.

But then Annie also passes hers, and Jake is surprised because he’s so sure she’s the one who accessed the DVR. Can people beat the polygraph? Gary says it’s possible, but for psychopaths and heartless liars. Is this how he sees Annie? She walks away so upset at Jake.

The next day, Jake comes home to find Kevin 1 (Tim Meadows) in their bedroom watching television. It was him all along! Kevin 1 makes Jake promise not to tell his husband about it, as Kevin 2 is passionate about couples watching their shows together just like Annie. But then Jake slips and talks about the huge twist in the finale, which made Kevin wonder — how did he know this when he claims he hasn’t seen the episode yet? Busted!

Jake realizes that Annie may have been telling the truth after all. With the intention of making up to her, Jake visits her office with flowers on hand. But then he overhears Annie talking to her co-workers about the finale, which they actually all watched together at work. Busted!

Back in their apartment, Jake talks to Kevin 1, who is still watching TV in their room by the way, about how Annie makes such a big deal about their watching the show together when she’s also watching it with her workmates. He seriously feels betrayed.

Kevin 1 admits he’s been TV cheating on Kevin 2 for years, but at this point, he knows what to do so that it doesn’t cause a strain in their relationship.

Jake feels uncomfortable because they’re not even married yet and here are all these lies about TV cheating. What does this say about their relationship?

Meanwhile, Dennah and Gary are on a double date with Gil and Laguna Matata, when the latter surprisingly kisses Gil for something he said. But then Laguna also kisses Gary and kissed him some more. It’s awkward and it’s weird! What’s going on?

Gary and Laguna reveal that they’re actually not just partners on the job, but in an open marriage. Dennah isn’t down with this setup, so she leaves the restaurant with her friends.

Back at the apartment, Jake is prepared to have a confrontation with Annie, but when she arrives apologizing for all their silly fights over a TV show, Jake backtracks to what Kevin 1 said about learning not to strain their relationship. So, instead of fighting with Annie, he just tells her that he found Kevin 1 watching TV on their bed. Mystery solved.

Jake: It’s crazy how some couples have to lie to each other just to make it work.
Annie: I’m glad that’s not us.
Jake: Me too!

That night, they finally got down to watching the finale, sitting so cozy next to each other.
