Evel Knievel is practically a legend, so it isn’t surprising that the acclaimed director, Martin Scorsese is looking into making a biopic about his life. But he isn’t going to commit to anything until he sees the script. Read On!
Daredevil Evel Knievel has always had a penchant for grabbing attention and Hollywood has always been looking to make a movie about the man. But nobody has ever gotten close to the idea of how that might be done until Sheldon Saltman’s book, “Evel Knievel On Tour” hit the bookstands.
The book was an infuriating but engaging read and the man who had inspired the book, Evel Knievel himself, was drawn into battling the author for baring too many “embarrassing personal details” and adding factual inaccuracies. Apparently, the book discussed Evel’s failure to make the Snake River Jump at great length and Evel was somewhat chagrinned that somebody remembered the slight hint of failure in his otherwise spotless career as a daredevil motorcycle rider.
This gave Martin Scorsese an idea for a great new movie, but he is still waiting for a script that will make him take the leap. He wants his favorite writer William Monahan to come up with something brilliant and he already has “The Wolf of Wall Street” writer, Terrence Winter’s word to produce the movie. But the director won’t make a move until he sees a script.
Collider reports that the movie is indeed in the works and we might hear more about it soon.
Evel Knievel had the sort of personality that has always inspired the muse of many acclaimed directors. But none of them have gotten close to writing a good script for the biopic. Recently, Darren Aronofsky was going to make a film about Knievel and it was going to star Channing Tatum, but the plans were trashed in favor of writing a feature for Jennifer Lawrence.
