This just in! Channing Tatum, Producer for the upcoming Marvel film “Gambit”, has apparently found himself a director. “Gambit,” which will also star Tatum as the Cajun mutant with the explosive hands, is Marvel’s third film in 2016. Read on to find out more.

According to Jeff Sneider of the Wrap, Tatum is courting Doug Liman to direct “Gambit” in 2016. Liman, whose other directorial ventures include “Edge Of Tomorrow” and “The Bourne Identity,” has not confirmed anything yet. But given its deadline, we can expect a formal announcement pretty soon.

If Liman does consent to direct for Tatum, this would be his first foray into superhero movies. He has skirted the genre with 2014’s excellent science fiction “Edge of Tomorrow,” which has the dubious distinction of having more Tom Cruise deaths in one movie than his entire career otherwise combined. We are excited about Liman’s possible inclusion into the project, but then again this is also the man that made “Mr. And Mrs. Smith” so fingers crossed.

“Gambit” was previously supposed to be directed by “Planet Of The Apes” helmsman, Rupert Wyatt, who has since left the project citing creative differences with the studio. Wyatt’s vision apparently considered too ‘risky’ for the movie, and the studio is going for a safer option, as we have already reported.

In the meantime, Marvel studios is apparently scratching its head over Gambit’s love interest in the upcoming movie. Anna Paquin, who plays Rogue in the X-Men Movieverse, has denied any involvement with the project so far. Names like Lea Seydoux and Rebecca Ferguson are also apparently in contention for the character of Bella Donna Boudreaux, who in the comics has a complicated love-hate relationship with Gambit.

In Gambit, Channing Tatum will play the Remy LeBeau the Ragin’ Cajun, a long-standing mutant anti-hero in the X-Men Universe, with the power to impart any object with kinetic energy and make it explode. He normal uses this skill with a deck of cards, whilst make terrible jokes all the time.
