At the panel for San Diego Comic-Con 2014, Marvel and Disney has just dropped the bombs for comic book fans as they have announced a planned release date of a sequel and an upcoming animated series for “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Read on for more details about this story.
In a report from Deadline, Marvel and Disney has just made big announcements during the panel at the San Diego Comic-Con 2014. With days left for the upcoming release of the much-awaited Marvel movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” director James Gunn, along with actor Chris Pratt, has announced via video from London that a sequel to the film is planned to be released on July 28, 2017. Gunn and Pratt are currently in London to promote the first movie’s release overseas. Apparently, Gunn is slated to write and direct the sci-fi group’s sequel.
Aside from the big announcement, Marvel reveals an upcoming animated series of the “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Fans were delighted as Marvel showcased an exhilarating one-minute preview of the series, with characters Rocket Raccoon and Star Lord appearing. There are still no news regarding when it will be released as of yet, but the animated series will be featured on Disney XD.
“Enjoy the cartoons, that’s what you are supposed to do on a Saturday morning,” joked Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s TV chief, as published on Deadline.
The panel also confirmed that the cosmic heroes are set to appear in other Marvel animated shows. Marvel’s “Ultimate Spider-Man: Web Warriors,” premiering on Disney XD in September, and clips of upcoming seasons for “Avengers Assemble” series and “Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.” were also featured during the event. The panel also teased on an upcoming “Iron Man and Captain America: Heroes United” animated film coming out on digital platforms next week.
The panel also included Robert Downey Jr., who went ahead to introduce his co-stars for the film “The Avengers: Age of Ultron”: Jeremy Renner, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), Paul Bettany (The Vision), James Spader (voice of Ultron) and Elizabeth Olsen (as Scarlet Witch). Scarlet Johansson was not able to attend due to her pregnancy. A clip from the upcoming “Age of Ultron” was also shown, receiving a standing ovation from the fans.
“Guardians of the Galaxy” will hit the big screens on July 31, 2014 for other territories and on Aug. 1, 2014 in the U.S. Meanwhile, “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” is scheduled for release on May 1, 2015.
