Marvel recently announced their latest marketing exercise for the coming “Thor” comic series for a gender change. Yes, a woman version of Thor. Read on to learn more about this scoop.
In a recent press release of Marvel Comics that transpired a couple of days ago at The View, the group teased a sudden gender shift on their latest comic book title. A lot of people were appalled with the sudden decision, but it seems like the company bears the right reason for the ultimate sex change.
According to Deadline, the firm aim is to move on from the God of Thunder to a worthy woman successor. It is basically a new superhero in the making who happens to be a woman succeeding the powers of the mighty hammer Mjölnir in the grandest of efforts to counter evil.
“The inscription on Thor‘s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well, it’s time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute. She’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy,” explained Will Moss, the Marvel editor, as published in Deadline.
Come to think of it, all this time, strength was not always the main catalyst of wielding the mighty powers of Thor. It has always been the measure of worthiness. We all saw it in the first “Avengers” movie when Hulk, the strongest of the assembly, failed repeatedly in carrying the hammer for himself.
“There are a number of women in Thor’s life, and we’re going to tease out for quite awhile the identity of who this woman is. But one of the women in Thor’s life picks up the hammer. She is in fact worthy. And she becomes Thor,” elaborated Axel Alonso, Marvel’s editor-in-chief, as published in Time.
This change is actually labeled as one of the most baffling yet supremely exhilarating transformation ever to quaver the big three in the Marvel series namely, Iron Man, Captain America and of course, Thor. However, rest easy there is certainly a huge separation of the movie and the comic series. Chris Hemsworth is still set to play Thor in the upcoming “Avengers” movie.
There is not much update in the how, to and why aspects of the latest comic book installment; but it will be penned by Jason Aaron, with the featured artistry of Russell Dauterman. It is set to be released in October.
