The doctor is in. Benedict Cumberbatch has reported on duty this month on the set of Avengers: Infinity War in Atlanta but he is already taking a beating from one of Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) soldiers.

Doctor Stranger Vs The Black Order

From the looks of it, the war for the Infinity Stones will take place in various locations in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including Earth. In the previous months, it has been confirmed that Thanos will not travel to this planet in order to face the Avengers. Instead, he is sending his army, the Black Order, to defeat the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

One of the Mad Titan’s soldiers will be battling Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, the new Sorcerer Supreme. In leaked photos from the set published by Just Jared, Cumberbatch in costume was seen lying on the ground as a man in a CGI suit attacks. Earlier that day (5 July), Mark Ruffalo was also spotted on set to film a scene wherein Bruce Banner caught a phone falling from the sky and took the call.

Eagle-eyed fans pointed out that in some of the photos, what looks like the name of the villain can be seen. The tag on the CG actor’s shoulder was labeled “EB MAW” which might be referring to Ebony Maw, one of the warriors who work under Thanos and the Black Order.

According to Marvel lore, Ebony Maw, a dangerous thinker, was dispatched to particularly deal with Doctor Strange. He was able to use his abilities to manipulate and control the sorcerer too, at one point, be a double-agent to spy on the Illuminati.

It is no surprise that Thanos targeted Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch’s first solo superhero movie revealed last year that the Eye of Agamotto is, in fact, the Time Stone, one of the six Infinity Stones. The item which can move forward or reverse time is still hidden in Kamar-Taj  Now that Thanos has made a move to assemble the Infinity Gauntlet, the Mad Titan is likely coming after everyone who possesses the six powerful artifacts.

Thanos’ Black Order Attacks Earth

He is certainly not the first and only member of the Black Order who was rumored to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. Earlier this year, actor Terry Notary was also spotted on the set of the upcoming movie wearing a mo-cap uniform. He was also carrying a scythe that looks a lot like the weapon used by Corvus Glaive, the right-hand man of Thanos in the comics.

A previous report claims that the Black Order will not only be an army that acts on the behest of the Mad Titan, they also have a personal connection to the cosmic entity. MCU Exchange caught the wind last month that the soldiers might be Thanos’ adopted children.

While still not confirmed, this revelation would not come as a surprise. In James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, it was revealed that both Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) were adopted daughters of the Mad Titan. They also were trained and have been working under the villain prior to the events of the movie. It would not be too impossible to imagine that the evil entity has kidnapped children all over the universe and train to do his bidding.

Avengers: Infinity War is still filming in several locations around the world including in Atlanta, Georgia, and Europe. The movie’s entire cast list has not been shared to the public yet, but among the confirmed stars are Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan and Tom Holland. The movie will land on the big screen on May 4, 2018.
