With the historic Federal ruling that legalized same-sex marriage across the United States, it seems popular culture too has started evolving. The rise of LGBT characters in films, TV series has increased substantially over the few years. As the World’s leading Entertainment business has slowly started featuring LGBT characters, a question like “when can we expect to see them in major movie franchise” arises. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige might have an answer to that.
According to Collider, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been offering an opportunity to tell different kind of stories from vast backgrounds and it looks like a place where some diversity could be showcased. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s comments about having an LGBT character in the movie franchise comes days after same-sex marriage was legalized across the US.
In a recent interview with the outlet, Mr. Feige spoke about the same when he was asked about it at the Press day for the studio’s upcoming venture “Ant-Man.” He said that maybe within the next decade or much sooner than that as the studio tends to follow comic books when they seek inspiration for characters and story.
Feige also added that while looking at the comics, he and his associates often ask themselves about where could they go next? So with the studio’s drawing board, which goes on till 2019, it remains to be seen. He also believes that there’s no reason as to why there can’t be an LGBT character sooner.
In the near future, it would be pretty great to see an LGBT character featuring in a significant role from the Marvel camp in any of their projects since they have started to become “one of the most bankable brands in the entertainment business.” Besides that, their movies also reach a massive amount of people all across the globe.
For the time being, Marvel has a massive line up of films that they will be releasing till the year 2019.
