MARVEL’s Agents of SHIELD” Season 2 Episode 9 “Ye Who Enter Here“ aired last Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on ABC. In this episode, the entire team split up into two as they went about their separate missions. Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), Agent Skye (Chloe Bennet), Agent Antoine “Trip” Triplett (B.J. Britt) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) went over to Vancouver to extract Rain (Ruth Negga) before HYDRA gets to her first. Meanwhile, SHIELD Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Agent Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrianne Palicki), Leo Fitz (Iain de Castecker), Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons) went to San Juan in order to locate the temple within the alien city in order to blow it up. However, in both missions, both teams had to make a big sacrifice that they were not prepared to do. Read on to learn more about this episode.

The episode opened with Agent Skye (Chloe Bennet), who dreamt that she was running an empty corridor while calling out for SHIELD Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). All of a sudden, she heard some music from a music box and then found herself in a lab with a glowing desk panel. Coulson, who was holding a Chinese newspaper, then told her that the closed music box in front of them was the mission. However, before he could touch it, Skye knocked it to the floor. When she looked up, she saw Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) and Coulson holding a baby girl. May then told him that sacrifices had to be made. She then reminded him about a poison tree and a poison fruit. They then bid goodbye to the baby girl. All of a sudden, as Skye heard Coulson calling her name, the music box, which she held in her hands, suddenly glowed with alien symbols and then turned her into stone. She then woke up and was told by Coulson that they had arrived at the SHIELD headquarters.

At the headquarters, Leo Fitz (Iain de Castecker) ran into Alphonso “Mac” Mackenzie (Henry Simmons). He told him that he knew that a storm was coming. Fitz then asked Mac to give Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) a briefcase for him. However, he refused to because he knew that at some point, both of them would finally have to talk.

Inside the Bus, Simmons took a look at Agent Antoine “Trip” Triplett’s (B.J. Britt) injuries and told him that he was lucky. They then started to talk about Skye’s crazy father (Kyle Machlahan) but stopped short as Skye walked up to them to tell them that they would be briefed in five minutes in the cargo hold. She then guessed that they were talking about her father. She agreed with them that everything was indeed messed up. She also told them that she had a feeling that something bad was going to happen.

At the cargo hold, Coulson told everyone that HYDRA had the Obelisk or the Diviner. It seemed to be an alien weapon of some sort and that they could not allow HYDRA to use it. According to Agent Bobbi “Mockingbird” Morse (Adrianne Palicki), HYDRA’s head, Daniel Whitehall (Diamond Reed), was trying to create an extinction level event. She then deduced that whatever the Obelisk was, it would do exactly that. Coulson then told them that they had one advantage over HYDRA. They knew the location of the city where they wanted to bring the Obelisk. To activate it, they had to place it first inside the temple within the city. Skye then revealed that they had discovered that the 3D alien map they had was a match for a city found underneath Puerto Rico. Coulson then informed them that they would access the city through San Juan. It also included the control of a team would survey the structural integrity of the city and locate the temple so that they could destroy it.

Meanwhile, Raina was hidden from sight by the Koenig brothers. They saved her from the HYDRA agents that were coming to grab her. When they were finally able to get in touch with Coulson, they informed him about Agent 33, who still had May’s face on. He said told Raina that Whitehall had wanted to talk to her. The Koenigs had been able to locate Raina. It was due to the fact that SHIELD had embedded a tracker inside her. It was something that she had let slip to Agent 33.

Meanwhile, as Skye and May watched the news clip of how Senator Christian Ward (Tim DeKay) and his parents were burned. They realized that Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) had been behind everything. May then told Skye that the only thing they could do now was to try to catch Ward again.

Coulson then told them that they would be splitting up. May led the team on the Bus to extract Raina in Canada. He also told Skye to stay with May. He had a feeling that Raina would open up more to her. After she left, she told May that she did not want Skye to be anywhere near her father. He told her to watch over Skye.

In the cargo hold, Bobbi told Simmons that she noticed the awkwardness between her and Fitz. She also revealed to her that she knew what had happened. Simmons then told her that Fitz. They were at the bottom of the ocean and had said something that threw her off guard. However, Simmons revealed that those nine days that Fitz was in a coma were the longest days of her life. She just wanted her best friend back. She also told Bobbi that she saw Fitz as a best friend but couldn’t bear to live without him. However, she could not seem to tell him. Bobbi then advised her to do so because trust was very important.

Mac, Simmons, Fritz and Bobbi then went up to the Quin Jet to prepare to leave. Before Coulson left, Skye hugged him. Inside the jet, before Bobbi, their pilot, took off, she told Mac, whom she viewed as an older brother, not to tell Hunter about the other thing. Mac had been thinking of sharing with him since Isabel Hartley (Lucy Lawless) had died.

In Canada, Hunter took out a HYDRA agent who had been following Sam Koenig on the street. May then found the HYDRA van and knocked out the two agents inside. She stole the van for herself. Skye then picked up Billy Koenig and Raina. She told them to escape using the stairs as Agent 33 had found them. They then fought, and she knocked Skye down. However, before she could deliver a final fatal blow, Hunter knocked her out and got scared after he saw her face. She looked exactly like May except for a part of her face that looked burnt.

At San Juan, both Coulson and Bobbi were dropped off at a particular plaza, as they were going to meet her contact, a politician named Diego who liked her. It was done in order to get some help in procuring the particular architectural plans they needed. Bobbi was then a little bit surprised with Coulson’s order to destroy and not to recover the city. Former SHIELD Director Nick Fury would have ordered to recover it and would have already calculated the acceptable losses. However, Coulson did not operate that way at all. He then revealed to her that he had brought Fitz and Simmons along. They could assess and minimize the casualties that might occur when they destroyed the temple. He then revealed that he had brought Bobbi along as she was their gun. She then left him for a little while as Diego had arrived.

In the cargo hold of the plane, Mac left Simmons. Fitz alone so that they could talk with each other. Fitz then told her that he was going to move to the garage on the Bus. Simmons could run the laboratory and the science division, as he had not gotten any better. He also revealed that he could work for her but could never work with her again.

Bobbi and Coulson then went to the Fort of San Cristobal, where the vertical shaft, the opening to the city was. Particularly, the entry point was under a sentry tower that was located right at the water’s edge.

In Canada, both Hunter and Skye started to wonder where May was, especially as two HYDRA agents were just right in front of them. While Hunter left to look for May after Skye revealed that HYDRA had the Obelisk, Raina told her that that changed things. She then revealed to Skye that she could hold the Obelisk. The Obelisk, or Diviner, read their DNA in order to determine if you were worthy. She then told Skye that her father had told her that Skye would be able to hold the Obelisk. She told her that it was their destiny. Afterwards, she tried to drag Skye towards the waiting HYDRA agents. They were then knocked out by a HYDRA van that had been stolen by May.

Back on the bus, Trip found the Koenigs interesting. May then reported to Coulson. They had been successful in retrieving Raina and that he had been right that Raina would open up to Skye. He then asked her to ask Skye to try to get any information regarding the temple from Raina.

In San Juan, Bobbi revealed to Coulson that Diego refused to go into the sentry tower due to the legend surrounding it. According to Simmons, the tower was called La Garita del Diablo. Several guards had simply vanished from it in the middle of the night.

Fitz and Simmons then sent down the dwarves, their mini probes, into the tunnel in order to assess it. However, without warning, it suddenly disappeared from the tablet screen. As they prepared to lower Mac into the tunnel in order to reboot the dwarves, Fitz warned them that it was possible that all electronics might not be able to work down there.

Meanwhile, back on the bus, Skye tried to take to Raina. She then told Skye that her father had taken her in and the unch of other freaks and taught them they weren’t freaks. She also confirmed that he could get quite emotional and violent, but all he really wanted was to be with his daughter again. She also revealed that both she and Skye were human, with the potential to be more. She also revealed that her grandmother and family believed in the blue angels called the Kree, who had fallen from the sky. According to Raina, the Kree wanted to affect change, and that was why they had left the Diviner or Obelisk on earth. They wanted to figure out who were worthy to inherit the Earth. She then revealed that if she held the Obelisk, it would lead her to the temple. However, there was a catch. It was only those who the Diviner deemed as worthy could enter to witness its true powers, and those who weren’t would die.

Skye then insisted that May call up Coulson and the others to warn them not to go down into the temple. She revealed to her that based on one of the symbols on the map, she knew exactly where the temple was. However, before they could do anything, Whitehall contacted them. He announced that they were surrounded and to hand over Raina to his agent. They all drew their guns on Ward who insisted that Skye come with them as well, with the tablet of the map, so that she could meet her father. May then reluctantly let her go.

Meanwhile, they had to pull Mac up from the tunnel, as he was screaming. He had accidently been injected with alien DNA. As soon as they got him up, he told them to run, before his eyes turned red and started to fight them. He then accidentally knocked Simmons over, and she almost fell into the tunnel. Coulson, who was holding on to her, told Fitz to shoot Mac with a real gun. However, before Fitz could do so, Bobbi knocked him out with electricity from her batons, which caused him to fall into the tunnel. Coulson then ordered them to seal off the tunnel and told Bobbi that that was not Mac anymore.

Afterwards, Agent 33 told Whitehall that Ward had taken Skye as a hostage, as an insurance, and that he had let the SHIELD plane go. Whitehall then gave her the order to shoot it down from the sky, which she did.
