Previously on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (“Ragtag” Season 1 Episode 21), a young Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) set their home on fire, not knowing that his brother was trapped inside. When he was all locked up, Garrett (Bill Paxton) visited him and made an offer that he could not absolutely ditch. He told the boy that a secret organization was on the move, looking for boys with skills like him. Before we know it, men raged the room, and Ward walked out as a freeman.

Garrett left the poor boy in the woods for six months then came back to train him. He revealed his affiliation, which turned into betrayal, to S.H.I.E.L.D., at the same time his connection with Hydra. Then, Garrett informed Ward that he made it to S.H.I.E.L.D.

On a different note, Raina (Ruth Negga) discovered Skye’s (Chloe Bennet) roots. Skye’s DNA sample was linked to a devastating incident in China where monsters were on the loose, looking for their missing child.

Deathlok (J. August Richards) killed a drug mule connected with Hydra. Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team wondered why they would do that. Meanwhile, Garrett was developing a Centipede serum. He needed GH-325 to stabilize it. Coulson would not let him and Ward get away with their crimes. So he and May (Ming-Na Wen) went into the Cybertek office as scientists and discovered that Garrett was the first Deathlok. Cybertek was a corporation engaged with the Deathlok project.

Soon the team deduced that Garrett wanted to use GH-325 for himself as he was dying as well as his army. Garrett’s terrible condition had something to do with his failing organs.

Now in Cuba…  Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) located the bus in the airbase. They were ordered not to shoot, but Ward found them and took them aboard. Fitz managed to pull out a gadget which has made it through electrical devices. This caused Garrett to experience attacks. Fritz told Ward to let Garrett die so he would not take orders from him anymore. However, Ward refused to listen. Fitz tried to bring out the goodness in Ward. Ward told him that he really cared about them, but Ward’s ego got the best of him. He saw this “caring” thing as a sign of weakness. So, he dumped Simmons and Fitz in the ocean.

In Washington… Ian Quinn offered the heads of the military with super soldiers who are more capable of protecting the world.

Garrett ordered Raina to thrust his system. There were no guarantees, but upon the administration of the ingredient, Garrett was more alive. Meanwhile, Coulson and his team were trapped in a pool of centipede soldiers.
