“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 Episode 1 “Shadows” aired on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at 9:00 p.m. on ABC. Coulson is now the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., and his team has embarked on combatting new threats. Read on to learn more about this episode.
Previously on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (Episode 1 “Shadows”), the episode opened with a flashback from World War II, and we saw Peggy Carter. She was the acting commander of Cap’s men, and they were trying to retrieve the obelisk from Hydra’s camp. This obelisk “may hold the answer to death.” Moreover, it is the Strategic Scientific Reserve’s (SSR) artifact. SRR is the predecessor of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Carter, with the lack of sufficient information on what can the obelisk bring, just sealed it in a metal box and stored it.
Back into the present day, Coulson (Clark Gregg) wanted this obelisk back, but Hydra wanted it too, and they sent Carl Creel (Brian Patrick Wade), aka Absorbing Man, to retrieve it. Creel has the ability to absorb the chemical composition of anything that his hands lay on. In turn, Coulson sent his team to recover it.
Let us focus on Skye (Chloe Bennett) for a while. The girl managed to train and acquire some skills, both weapon and combat. She has transformed into a tough one, especially in the face of Ward (Brett Dalton). Ward, on the other hand, wanted to reveal so much information about Hydra while Coulson keeps him in a cell. While interrogating Ward, Skye told him to answer what he was asked — on how to infiltrate Hydra communications — or she would leave. Then we saw Skye cutting Ward off just when he was about to tell her about her father.
Agents May (Ming-Na Wen), Triplett (B.J. Britt) and Skye, along with Hartley (Lucy Lawless) and her team of mercenaries, managed to get in the U.S. military and retrieve the obelisk. However, Absorbing Man was in pursuit. Hartley’s hand, with the obelisk, turned as if dead. Meanwhile, the trio were after the Quinjet.
Hartley knew that the thing would kill her. Then Absorbing Man showed up again and tumbled in their vehicle. He grabbed the disembodied arm with the obelisk still attached to it.
In this episode, we all met Dr. Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond) or Kraken. He is a modern Hydra operative, who Absorbing Man has updated when he retrieved the obelisk.
