Fans of Benedict Cumberbatch are getting a double treat for the holidays as “Sherlock: The Abominable Bride” will be released in a couple of days, and as new information and pictures have just been released regarding MARVEL’s “Doctor Strange.” Aside from this, new clues have also been given regarding the characters that Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen will be portraying. WARNING: This article will contain spoilers for MARVEL’s “Doctor Strange.”

With MARVEL’s “Captain America: Civil War” coming in less than five months, it is no surprise that there has been a lot of talk and a lot of interviews regarding the film surfacing as of late.

However, MARVEL has decided to surprise both fans of the MARVEL Cinematic Universe and of Benedict Cumberbatch by allowing Entertainment Weekly to conduct a series of interviews which not only gives a glimpse of what to expect in the film, but also teases who Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen will be portraying in the film.

First off, Entertainment Weekly was able to get six new first look images of Cumberbatch in his full get up, and also managed to get a first look at his “Chamber of Relics,” or his “Sancto Sanctorum.’

The first few images that they got of Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange are of him wearing the full costume, as well as a picture of him casting a spell with his hands.

The first image revealed that he will be wearing the blue top and the red cape that MARVEL comics fans know and love. Around his neck is the Eye of Agamotto, which, in this case, has a glint of green inside of it. Because of this, many are beginning to think that Strange is holding the Soul Gem, one of the Infinity Stones.

The other picture of Cumberbatch shows him casting a spell with his hands, with gold streaks of energy dancing around.

According to the actor, the gestures that he will be doing in the movie in order to cast spells are intricate and wonderful, and he also mentioned that the added effects will definitely enhance those moments. He also mentioned that filming “Doctor Strange” is crazy, as he does all sorts of stunts, from flying and fighting, all the way to getting punched himself.

Concept art of Strange in the aftermath of his accident was shown; as well as concept art of Strange entering a different dimension. According to MARVEL studios president Kevin Feige, that particular concept art, whose likeness will be seen throughout the movie, is reminiscent of the way MARVEL comics handled these concepts and ideas at the time- psychedelic.

With regards to Rachel McAdams’ character, Feige told Entertainment Weekly that she will be portraying a colleague of Strange’s who becomes the “lynchpin” to his old life, and who also serves to “anchor his humanity”. She will also be the audience’s eyes in the film, as most of Strange’s new world is just as foreign to her, as it is to the audience.

Lastly, Feige informed Entertainment Weekly that Mads Mikkelsen will be portraying the main antagonist of the film. He also revealed that Mikkelsen’s antagonist will be a scary being from a different dimension who wants to let the more evil things froms his dimension to be let loose on the Earth.

Based on the character description, there are rumors that he might be portraying the villain Dormammu, but this hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.
