Scott Glenn is joining the jam-packed, all-star cast of Marvel’s The Defenders. In a new interview, the actor who plays the role of master martial artist Stick teases the massive war in New York in the upcoming Netflix series.

The Soldiers In A Secret War

While the synopsis for the upcoming series is still not released, the first trailer released by Netflix earlier this year hints at a bigger role for Glenn. Rumors claim that the big bad in the superhero series will be The Hand, the same ninja organization that has been plaguing Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) since Marvel’s Daredevil Season 1. They also appeared more recently in the first season of Marvel’s Iron Fist. As a member of The Chaste, a secret society that opposes the criminal organization The Hand, he is expected to lead the war in New York in Marvel’s The Defenders.

Moreover, two of his former students are major players in the series. Aside from Daredevil, Elektra Natchios is also expected to star in the series.

“It’s like Daredevil and Elektra are my kids and I essentially adopt them both, trained them to fight,” the actor told AOL’s Build Series. Whether Matt’s college sweetheart will be on the side of good or evil remains to be seen. However, in the trailer, she was spotted pushing her former boyfriend into a glass wall.

“The written problem I have with Daredevil is the one line he won’t cross – taking human life,” Glenn added. “He’ll beat people up horrendously, put them in a hospital, do whatever he has to do but he won’t kill people.”

In contrast, Stick does not have the same strict moral code. Unlike Daredevil, Stick will not hesitate to kill in order to protect the world from evil.

“All I do is kill people,” he explained. “And working with the Chaste, I’m a blind assassin. I’m a defender against the worst evil in the world and my only way of dealing with that is killing people.”

The War For New York has Began

In addition, the involvement of Stick hints of a big war that is coming to New York City. If The Hand led by Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious character is, indeed, the big bad of the series, The Chaste and The Defenders are on the other side.

Glenn does not think of his character as a bad person. While Stick has the capacity to murder in cold blood, he does it because he is a soldier in a war.

“I don’t think of myself as a bad person, but I don’t think of myself as a particularly good person either,” he said. “[T]he way I work with that is that I’m a soldier in combat in a desperate war and that’s the way I have to behave.”

Marvel’s The Defenders Plot Details

Marvel’s The Defenders is expected to see the completion of the Black Sky arc which was first introduced in Marvel’s Daredevil Season 1. At the end of the second season, Elektra was revealed to be the mysterious weapon of The Hand. While the character was killed in the end of the second season, a post-credit scene teased her resurrection as she was laid down in the same sarcophagus that, likely, brought Nobu (Peter Shonkoda) back to life.

The upcoming superhero series will also star Krysten Rittern, Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Rosario Dawson, Deborah Ann-Woll, Simone Missick, Rachel Taylor, Jessica Henwick, Elden Henson, Eka Darville and Carrie Ann-Moss. All 13 episodes are set to be released on Netflix on Aug. 18.
