With recent reports that another exemplary actress is going to join Mary Poppins 2, it is now safe to say that the production has been consistent in choosing quality talents. Get to know the reasons why the sequel just assembled the perfect ensemble.
Mary Poppins 2 is one of the most-awaited projects of Disney. The studio definitely invested a lot of money to live up to the timelessness of the classic 1964 Mary Poppins. That is evident on the producers’ acting choices for the characters. Directed by Rob Marshall, the film already took things up a notch in the pre-production.
Emily Blunt has been known to usually portray sassy and witty characters, which is perfect for her sophisticated British accent. One of the perfect examples is her stern yet hilarious character in The Devil Wears Prada. Now, she takes the pressure to successfully play Mary Poppins who was originally the legendary Julie Andrews.
Aside from Blunt’s superb acting skills, reports stated that she already got Andrews’ heavenly approval. If Andrews gave her a thumbs-up, why not Mary Poppins fans? Blunt still has to prove herself as Mary Poppins on the big screen, but it is best to stay optimistic for the sequel.
The Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep gets to team up with Blunt again after The Devil Wears Prada. She has no specific role yet for Mary Poppins 2, but it is going to be a major one. Reports also suggested that Streep would not be a villain in the sequel. Streep’s character may just be someone’s cousin in the movie.
The multi-awarded writer-actor Lin-Manuel Miranda is also a jaw-dropping addition to the Mary Poppins 2 cast. Known to receive numerous accolades for being a theater actor and writer, Miranda is perfect since the sequel turned out to be a musical as well.
Miranda will play the role of Jack, a simple street lamplighter. Jack is the sequel’s original character, according to Cinema Blend. The genius behind Hamilton would possibly play a character that is similar to the chimney sweeper named Bert, originally played by iconic Dick Van Dyke.
Michael Banks is an original character in the first Mary Poppins movie. English actor Ben Whishaw will play the role of Michael’s adult version. The actor already starred in several sophisticated films and theater productions such as Hamlet, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, The Danish Girl and Skyfall.
Finally, the newest addition Emily Mortimer landed the character of adult Jane Banks, originally portrayed by Karen Dotrice. Like Whishaw, the British actress took part in several quality productions such as Young Adam, Dear Frankie, Lars and the Real Girl and Transsiberian that earned her nominations from different award-giving bodies. She even won the Best Supporting Female award for Lovely & Amazing in the 2003 Independent Spirit Awards.
Mary Poppins 2’s possible release is in Christmas 2018. That will definitely be the perfect gift for avid movie-goers.
