The Season 2 of “Masterchef Junior” has finally premiered. These amazing kids strutting their way around the Masterchef kitchen with the three best chefs in the world: Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich. Find out how did the first episode go.

The first challenge was a mystery box that contained ingredients handpicked by last season’s winner, Alexander. It included pork chop, a pork tenderloin, Granny Smith apples, fingerling potatoes, Brussels sprouts, wholegrain mustard, hazelnuts, phyllo dough, wild rice and artichokes. Alexander even made 13 dishes to serve an inspiration for the young chefs.

The contestants were given 60 minutes to whip out something out of those ingredients. In the kitchen, someone will always crack under pressure, and we had that in the first episode, Coco. She started to cry because she felt like her potatoes were so salty, but Gordon reassured her that they were fine.

After an hour, the contestants presented their dishes. The judges then narrowed down the best three dishes. The first dish was from Natalie. She made seared pork chop with rosemary potatoes and sautéed apples and carrots. Next was a dish made by Mitchell — pork tenderloin with wild rice and fried egg. Last but not the least, Oona’s dish of spicy seared pork loin with mixed veggies and a fried egg.

The winner of this challenge will be saved from the elimination round, and he or she would also get the chance to choose what the other chefs will cook. Natalie won this round, and she chose chicken.

Featured dishes were from Oona with her chicken liver pate, Isabella’s chicken parmesan in marina sauce with pasta, Sean’s chicken wings in fish sauce plus yuzu salad, Coco’s chicken Milanese, Berry’s Moroccan chicken, Nasir’s lemon chicken, Abby’s Mexican fried chicken and Samuel’s five-spice chicken wings.

The kids really impressed us with their creativity in making their own chicken dishes, but the judges have to decide the top 12 chefs.

The top 12 chefs are Sean, Oona, Samuel, Josh, Natalie, Logan, Mitchell, Levi, Sam, Abby, Adaiah and Jessica. Isabella and Nasir were sent home.
