Masters of Sex Update: Showtime Adds New Cast Members Plus a First Look at the Upcoming Season 2 [WATCH VIDEO]

The hot summer will continue to sizzle as the critically-acclaimed “Masters of Sex” returns for its second season offering on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 10 p.m. on Showtime. Read on for the “Masters of Sex” update as Showtime adds new cast members, plus a first look at the upcoming Season 2.

“Masters of Sex” is based on the biographical book written by Thomas Maier, titled “Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Love,” which features the story of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson on their research about human sexuality. Showtime had picked a season of it with twelve episodes, which premiered in 2013.

“Masters of Sex” has been a hit especially among TV critics. It was also named as one of AFI’s best movies and TV shows of 2013 as posted on Variety. Aside from that, the show and its star, Michael Sheen has been nominated in several prestigious award-giving ceremonies.

Fresh from their successful freshman run, sex researchers Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), comes back with a handful of new characters for “Masters of Sex” Season 2.

Courtney B. Vance & Rene Auberjonois. Deadline recently reported that Vance (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) and Auberjonois (“Warehouse 13”) will play recurring roles. Vance will play the role of a head doctor named Dr. Hendricks at an African-American hospital. He is set on getting his hospital to be racially intergrated. Auberjonois will portray the role of Dr. Papanikolaou. He will work together with Caplan’s character to invent the Pap Smear.

“Breaking Bad” alum Betsy Brandt. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Brandt will take on the new role as Dr. Masters’ new secretary named Barbara, replacing Miss Horchow (Margo Martindale) and Libby (Caitlin Fitzgerald).

Other recurring new cast members are Jocko Sims (“The Last Ship”) and Keke Palmer (“True VP”), as reported by Deadline. Sims will play the role of Robert, the brother of Keke Palmer’s character Coral. His sister works as the baby’s nanny for the Masters’ residence while he is an active member of CORE (Congress of Racial Equality).

Also joining the “Masters of Sex” cast is Sarah Silverman. At first, she was only rumoured to be joining the show, but is now officially confirmed to be part of the cast. TV Line reported that the award-winning comedienne will play the role of Helen, the former lesbian lover of Betty (Annaleigh Ashford). She is also the current girlfriend of “Masters of Sex” star Michael Sheen.

Other returning regular cast members include Caitlin Fitzgerald, Teddy Sears, Nicholas D’Agosto, Annaleigh Ashford, Beau Bridges, Allison Janney, Rose McIver, Heléne Yorke, Julianne Nicholson, Nicholle Tom, Ann Dowd and Finn Wittrock.
