Good news for fans as Maze Runner: The Death Cure is back on track after being paused indefinitely. Lead actor Dylan O’Brien has recovered from a near-fatal motorcycle and production is set to begin soon.
The film was on hiatus after O’Brien suffered life-threatening injuries in March 2016. The young actor required full facial reconstruction surgery and took almost nine months to recover.
Shortly after the accident, fans of the 25-year old actor were told that the actor would recover pretty quickly after only a few weeks. However, the seriousness of his injuries was apparent that his recovery would take much longer.
In addition to O’Brien being put out of action, the incident also spelled doom for the film’s Canadian set. Authorities shut down the production citing failure to ensure the safety of workers on set. Consequently, the remainder of the film will now be shot in South Africa.
So when will Maze Runner: The Death Cure begin production? Well for starters you can forget about the original release date February 17, 2017 since we’re way past that. The film has been rescheduled and will hit theaters on January 12, 2018.
Maze Runner 3: The Death Cure Cast Tells Production Resumes Anytime
Moviepilot reported that Patricia Clarkson spilled some beans regarding the film saying that the set in Cape Town, South Africa is ready and that she has already received the script. Barry Pepper also tweeted last February that he has already received his script and teased that the locations are going to be stunning. Given that there’s still a way to go in production expect that filming to resume any day now.
So what can we expect on the third installment of the Maze Runner franchise? For one, Director Wes Ball emphasized that Death Cure will be different from its predecessor. Coming from a boom era of young-adult movie franchises it does help to set you apart from the competition.
Taking place one year after the events of Scorch Trials, the film will follow Thomas and what remains of the Gladers as they try to stop WCKD while at the same time find a cure for the Flare disease.
For now, the only thing Maze Runner: Death Cure fans can do is wait and hope that no more production delays happen. There’s no telling whether Ball will follow the source material faithfully. However, if you wish not spoil your movie experience for next year, we suggest avoiding the books and forums for now at least.
