Is there an easter egg for the rise of ‘Mechagodzilla’ hidden in Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla? A new theory would seem to suggest to, opening up chances of our favorite ‘robot-kaiju-hybrid’ appearing in the upcoming” Godzilla 2.” Read on to find out more.
Chris Harkin, over at Movie Pilot, has a dream. And it is to see Mechagodzilla come to Hollywood. In a new theory, Harkin is suggesting that the M.U.T.O (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) skeleton, showed in 2014’s “Godzilla” may be used to create the mechanical-kaiju.
In the 2002 “Toho Godzilla” movie, that is precisely what happens, with a biomechanical beast ‘Kiryu’, created by scientists from the bones of the original Godzilla to combat him. Basicall, scientists saw the roaring giant destroying Tokyo and decided the only way to help the situation was to create another monster, with robotic parts and a super-powerful freeze breath. It is, at the same time, the most asinine and the most awesome thing ever.
“Godzilla 2” has already confirmed classic Toho-studios monsters, Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, so having Mechagodzilla in this world would not be stretching the imagination any more than normal. What’s more, ‘Kiryu’ is only the second Mechagodzilla (yeah, there’s more than one Mechagodzillas too), the first one being created by aliens with the bones of, you guessed it, King Ghidorah.
So even if there’s no Mechagodzilla in “Godzilla 2”, Gareth Edwards has no excuse left not to put him in there in “Godzilla 3.” The world needs more mechanically enhanced gojira, but we will only find out for sure when “Godzilla 2” hits theaters, on July 22, 2018.
