Miley Cyrus and her antics never go unnoticed. Cyrus is currently on tour to promote her new album “Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz”, with a few members of The Flaming Lips and Dan Deacon.

As quirky a performer that Cyrus is, Deacon’s stage activities are a feast for the senses as well. If you haven’t seen him perform, expect a psychedelic experience, as he takes control of the space and urges the audience to intermingle with his music by becoming part of the act. He reportedly covered the stage with plants in one performance in Portugal.

People Magazine recently interviewed Deacon and he shared some insights about the “Wrecking Ball” hit maker.

Asked when there was something that startled him about Miley Cyrus, 34-year-old Deacon said that the singer is surprisingly “down to earth”.

“I think the most surprising thing is how down-to-earth she is. I mean, you never know what to expect with someone who you only ingest through the media. I keep thinking about how something she says can be taken out of context so many different times, to paint this image or picture within a public persona.” he said.

In contrast to how Cyrus projects herself during concerts and appearances, not to mention her outlandish outfits, it is truly contradictory that she will be described as such—but hey, if that’s who she really is, then who are we to question that?

Deacon went on to elaborate that seeing Cyrus in a normal light made him realize that she’s normal like every one else and said that she just tends to be misunderstood at times.

“The one thing I do think about is how information works, and how crazy it is for someone to say something, and it can mean a million different things to a million different people. She’s doing such a radically different show, and people are going to say it’s for shock value, but I think it’s much easier for someone to say that someone’s doing something for shock value than for someone to believe someone’s doing something they want to do.” Deacon added.

The group has an upcoming performance at Terminal 5 this weekend in New York City and will resume throughout the U.S. into the whole month.
