Mindy Lahiri of The Mindy Project has been tagged a lot of things in the past few seasons – contradictory, double standards, financially insane, even adulteress – but one thing she is not is a misogynist.
Mindy has always advocated female rights, gender equality and has made decisions which resonate that fact. In the season premiere, she did her own thing by neither choosing baby daddy, Danny nor southern gentleman Dr Jody.
So, it was a shock when in Season 5 episode 4, Mindy Lahiri Is a Misogynist opened up an all new can of worms. Mindy stumbles along the way but makes her peace at the end.
According to Hidden Remote, the episode starts after Dr. Jeremy Reed cardiac scare. Jeremy does a lot around the practice, especially the daily affairs. With Mindy handling her fertility clinic, child and what ever new drama in her life, things get tough for Dr Reed. Jeremy and Jody decide to hire another doctor and fill Danny’s office. They settle on a list of female doctors and finalize Dr Anna Ziev. This gets Mindy riled up.
Leading to unnecessary drama and a verbal duel when Anna treats one of Mindy’s patients. Mindy is seriously miffed and plans to fire Anna.
A moment of clarity comes from nurse Ben’s daughter, Lindsay. She makes Mindy realize that her inner competitiveness is awakened after another women enters her pen. She comes to her senses and totally blames men for the fight. Century old belief that women have to fight one another to gain favor from a man has led to this evolutionary behavior of cat fights.
Thankfully after muddling her way through her misogynistic tendencies, she welcomes Anna. As Hello Giggles observes, feminism wins again.
Its nice to have another female doctor in the practice to balance out the men.
