Four people, including Sofia Trinidad’s boyfriend Plutarco Antonio Ruiz and Aris Maldonado, have been detained and questioned by police under doubt of abduction.
A police spokesperson, Jose Coello, told the Guardian that they assumed Ruiz and Maldonado were the last people to see the siblings before they disappeared.
“Both are being questioned as part of the investigation into the disappearance of [María José Alvarado] and her sister. We hope to establish what role they may have played,” said Coello to the Guardian.
To honor Alvarado and her sister and offer prayers for their families, Miss World contestants will hold a special service on Sunday.
"We are devastated by this terrible loss of two young women, who were so full of life," said Miss World chairwoman Julia Morley in the CNN report.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Maria and Sofia's family during this difficult time.
