London, England may be a venue of all things wonderful, but it certainly put an exceptionally high criteria for beauty over the weekend. With the Miss World 2014 beauty pageant that took place in the ExCeL Exhibition Centre, thousands flock to see the array of gorgeous women from various countries. Read on to learn more about it.

These women wait for the announcement of the new Miss World winner as they all gathered together to showcase their talent and wisdom. All of which, hoped and prayed to be crowned as the winner of the coveted beauty pageant.

According to Mirror, Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss  was crowned as the winner of the prestigious event. The glitzy finale, which was held last Sunday, was witnessed by an estimated billion viewers from throughout the world,  Strauss’ win was followed with Miss Hungary’s Edina Kulcsar as the runner-up and Miss United States Elizabeth Safrit on third.

When she was announced as the winner of the competition, the medical student dedicated her win to her home country. She also made a promise to brace herself for the huge responsibility that was passed on to her. She was crowned by Miss World 2014 Megan Young from the Philippines as her successor.

Earlier during the competition, Strauss revealed that she wanted to help other people in her home to gain the value of education. And along with this, she could help them realize their dreams in life.

“I am what I am today because of the opportunities I have received and I would love to give others the same opportunities; educating, the opportunity to be educated, to make healthy choices and also to live their dreams,” Strauss said in her speech during the competition.

This year’s Miss World prestigious pageant marks the 64th year of the event. A total of 121 women participated in the pageant. Strauss marks as the third winner of the competition to hail from South Africa. The two other times that South Africa won Miss Africa were in 1958 and 1974.
