The 63rd Annual Miss Universe competition will showcase beauties from almost 90 countries from all over the world. The contestants will be judged in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown and the Q & A portion. Read on for further details.
As the coronation night of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant draws near, the predictions are also speeding up. Contenders from USA, India, Philippines, Spain, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, South Africa and Ecuador were among top early crowd favorites. The predictions are based on the country’s history at the big four pageants and candidates popularity and fan following.

Nia Sanchez of USA
Nia Temple Sanchez is born Feb. 15, 1990 in Sacramento. She has won Miss USA 2014. Sanchez is the first contestant from Nevada to be crowned as Miss USA. Sanchez is a fourth-degree black belt holder in taekwondo and a certified instructor. She also studied jazz and ballet for five years. She had visited 12 countries around the world before becoming Miss Nevada USA. She acted in the roles of several of Disney’s princess characters at Hong Kong Disneyland, where she worked for seven months in 2012.
The 24-year-old is the first American candidate from Nevada to ever represent the nation in one of the world’s most prestigious beauty contests. Sanchez has been dating actor Daniel Booko before she won Miss Nevada USA. The two got recently engaged.
The country has won three of the four pageants, eight Miss Universe crowns, three Miss World crowns and three Miss International crowns, for a total of 14 wins.
India’s Noyonita Lodh
Noyonita Lodh is born in 1993. Lodh was crowned Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Universe 2014 in October. She did her schooling from The Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore, the same school from which India’s second Miss Universe Lara Dutta got qualified. The 5’ 6” tall stunner was crowned as Second Runner Up at MAX Miss Bangalore 2011 contest and also won Miss Catwalk sub-award there.
The 21-year-old student of Business Management at St. Joseph’s College of Commerce in Bangalore, Noyonita had won two local pageants at the age of 16 and 18 before she won Miss Diva Universe 2014. With a passion for the cause of women’s empowerment, she is determined and well prepared to win.
Only two Indian women have won the Miss Universe crown in the past. Sushmita Sen won the title in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000. India has won three of the big four pageants, Miss International being the only omission. It has won two Miss Universe crowns (1994, 2000), five Miss World crowns (1966, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000) and one Miss Earth crown (2010).
Melissa Gurgel of Brazil
Melissa Gurgel is born on June 3, 1994 in Fortaleza. She is working as model and majoring in fashion and design studies. Gurgel was crowned as Miss Brasil 2014 and represented Ceará. She has always been a very optimistic and determined woman. During her younger days, she loved to act like a model at fashion shows and pose for photographs. She grew up trying her mother’s clothing and shoes.
Brazil is the first country to win all big four pageants. The latest was when they won Miss Earth in 2004. The country has won Miss World in 1971, Miss Universe in 1963, 1968 Miss International in 1968 and Miss Earth in 2004, 2009.
Mary Jean Lastimosa of the Philippines
Lastimosa is a Filipino businesswoman, actress and model who has won the Binibining Pilipinas 2014. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Mindanao. Lastimosa is a fitness advocate and owns a fitness/spa center in Davao City.
In 2014, PETA named her as the Philippines Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity. Philippines’ bet gets the most attention from the social media for her advocacy for peace and humanity. The only Asian country to win the big four, Philippines is the third and the most recent country to join the ranks of Brazil and Venezuela. Philippines has conquered the four major beauty pageants with two Miss Universe crowns (1969, 1972), four Miss International crowns (1964, 1970, 1979, 2005) and one Miss Earth crown (2008).
