Mission: Impossible 5 Set to Release on Christmas 2015

Paramount has officially announced the Mission: Impossible 5 for release on December 25th, 2015, just over four years after Ghost Protocol hit the scene.

Tom Cruise returns for another go-round as secret agent Ethan Hunt in Christopher McQuarrie’s directed movie. He will also act as producer sharing his job with  J.J. Abrams and David Ellison. Drew Pearce (co-writer of Iron Man 3) will be there to write the script of the latest sequel. However, there’s no update on who will join Cruise in front of the camera, though we hope to hear about casting update in London by February 2014.

If you remember, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was also released in December and went on to gross nearly $700 million worldwide. This time, McQuarrie’s film will face a strong competition at the box office. It’ll go up against Ben Affleck’s Live By Night, which will also open on Christmas Day. In addition, DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 3 arrives two days earlier, while Star Wars: Episode VII and Warcraft having opened a week before MI5.

Will McQuarrie’s film be able to handle this difficult opposition? Let us know in the comments below.
