Mob Wives Star Big Ang Undergoes Throat Surgery to Remove Lemon-Sized Tumor

Ever wonder why VH1’s “Mob Wives” star Angela “Big Ang” Raiola has a severe raspy voice? Just recently, Big Ang has undergone surgery to remove a tumor down her throat. Take note, the tumor was the size of a lemon. Read on to know updates about Big Ang’s condition.

Janine Detore, Big Ang’s sister, told TMZ that the throat surgery was done on Tuesday, Apr. 7, 2015. She explained that it was a scary eight-hour operation. Aside from the tumor, she said that the surgeons also removed Big Ang’s lymph nodes to be safer.

Following the surgery, Detore said that her sister was instructed to never speak for three days. After the designated number of days, she explained that Big Ang’s voice would be back to normal.

Aside from Detore’s statement to TMZ, she also posted on Instagram dedicated to Big Ang’s fans, friends and family. She confirmed that her sister has survived the operation and thanked everyone for their prayers. She added another photo of her and Big Ang and wrote that they would always be with each other. Then she ended it by saying that she loves her sister, who is a fighter.

As of now, Big Ang’s family is hoping that the cancer did not spread throughout her body. TMZ reported that they are still waiting for results from the PET scan.

Days before Big Ang’s throat surgery, the reality star was part of a fake funeral at Times Square to promote the new reality show “Connected.” According to, she was with Tila Tequila, Omarosa, Ronnie Ortiz-Margo and Jon Gosselin. During the mock funeral, Gosselin buried an Ed Hardy shirt, Margo, a dumbbell, laundry detergent and tanning lotion and Big Ang, a bottle of alcohol.
