“Edge of Tomorrow” reportedly grossed $20 million in 28 international markets since its opening overseas a week before it debuts in the U.S. Warner Bros. is releasing “Edge of Tomorrow” early overseas because it wants to get out in front of the FIFA’s World Cup, an international tournament that kicks off on June 12, 2014 and will last for one month. “Edge of Tomorrow” faced hard competition from “Maleficent.” “Edge of Tomorrow” only grossed $20 million, whereas “Maleficent” grossed $100.6 million internationally from 47 foreign markets and $70 million domestically Box Office Mojo reports.
The United Kingdom is leading the collection with a $3.1 million take, Indonesia, with a $2 million, and Italy and Spain, both totaling $1.5 million. It was shown on 4,940 screens. “Edge of Tomorrow” was produced for $178 million. The expensive picture needs to perform well internationally as domestic tracking has put it on pace for a debut in the $30 million range, a dreary figure given the budget. Variety also said there was a “worrisome lack of buzz” leading up to the film’s release. Opening tracking at the start of the month approximated that the film would gross between $25 million and $30 million on its opening weekend, and the estimate decreased later in the month by $5 million.

The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the earth.
The plot revolves around Lt. Col. Bill Cage played by Tom Cruise who is an officer who is brusquely dropped into a suicide mission. After being killed Cage now discovers that he has mysteriously thrown into a time loop. Now he is in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth due to which he has to live out the same brutal battle repetitively.
Cage becomes able to take on the adversaries with growing adroitness while surviving each battle against aliens together with Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski played by Emily Blunt. With each recurring encounter during their battle against aliens Cage and Rita gets one step closer to trouncing the adversary and beating the alien forces.
