Comic book fans already know that Marvel Comics is big on ethnic diversity. Now a young Muslim girl is going to join the Avengers initiative and Marvel is winning fans in the Muslim world. Kamala Khan is the new Ms. Marvel and she is here to kick some ass.
Technically, the new Ms. Marvel has been around since August 2013 when she made her first appearance in Captain Marvel’s issue number 14. She has been headlining her own comic book series since February 2014. But she will only get to be a part of the Avengers initiative starting this November and if the preview notes from several comic book websites are to be believed, she is just as excited as us to join the Avengers initiative.
This is good news for the fans because it is high time that Marvel inject some new blood into the Avengers initiative. The story arcs are getting flaccid and boring and the character development for several major characters has run its course. It is good to know that a young super heroine is going to join the group; it might even give the older super heroes something to do besides flexing their muscles.
The writers have injected infectious enthusiasm into the character of Kamala Khan. She is excited about her powers and gifts most of the time and is obviously psyched to be a part of a super group like Avengers. How sweet! This is just the super-heroine that modern audiences were looking for.
The next series of Ms. Marvel is on the wings right now. Issue #1 will find its way onto comic store shelves on November 18th this year. The story will again be penned by G. Willow Wilson: she has been working on Ms. Marvel since the time of its inception. Adrian Alphona and Takeshi Miyazaw will provide the artwork and artistic arrangement for the series.
