Nicki Minaj stole the spotlight at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs). All jaws dropped at Minaj's colossal cleavage. Minaj didn’t walk the carpet, but she opened the show, flying into the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow wearing a khaki dress with a mammoth train and a bedazzled bra. It might have been a fairly less controversial show by MTV standards, but when Minaj was onstage, it was full of excitement. Read on for further details.
Minaj’s dominance at the MTV EMAs was apparent. Her multihued costumes, wigs and clothing have given her recognition as a style icon. Minaj made at least eight wardrobe changes during the big event. She performed her hit “Anaconda” and “Super Bass” in a sheer lace corset. She also performed a new ballad, "Bed of Lies." She even played golf onstage, putting into a hole-shaped like an outsized butt. The most unanticipated moment, however, came when she led the audience sing along with “I Would Walk 500 Miles,” despite having never heard it before.
Then she accepted the award for best hip hop. Many reports claimed that she was only given the award only because Eminem, Drake and Iggy Azalea were absent at the ceremony. Minaj also violated broadcasting rules by substantially swearing during the show. She dropped the F-bomb three times in a row before apologizing.
Moreover, she opened the show, addressing the crowd with: “What the f–k is good Glasgow? Sit back, relax and get ready to get turned the f–k up.”
At one point, she crooned a line from her recent “Pinkprint” single, “Only,” rapping, “I never f–ked Wayne, cause he’s not a Scot. / The other reason is I’m not a thot.”
She even tried to copy the heroic selfie Ellen took at the Oscars earlier this year. But then a dinosaur interrupted the selfie shoot, leaving her shouting, “What the f–k? You stupid f–king dinosaur, get the f–k out of here.”
“Sorry if I just cursed but I am Nicki Minaj,” said Minaj, apologizing for dropping the F-bomb multiple times.
Minaj was the first female artist included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List. The New York Times even regarded her as "the most influential female rapper of all time." Minaj became the most charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with over 44 appearances in April 2013. Minaj has endorsed Adidas, MAC Cosmetics and Pepsi. She has won four American Music Awards, eight BET Awards, two MTV Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, five Billboard Music Awards and Billboard’s 2011 Rising Star award.
