To celebrate the 20th anniversary of MTV's European Music Awards (EMAs), the event was planned with time-travel theme. This year's ceremony was held at Glasgow, Scotland's SSE Hydro Arena. Read on for further details.
At one bizarre moment, hostess Nicki Minaj cursed a stage-invading T-rex. The dinosaur symbolized the days when guitar bands were ruling the music industry and its award-giving events.
The time travel theme also honored Ozzy Osbourne for the global icon award. Meanwhile, One Direction won three awards at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards. Unfortunately, the boys weren't there to claim their awards.
"Scotland, I'd like to take you on a journey tonight," Minaj said before performing a medley that included her big hits "Super Bass" and “Anaconda.”
In addition to offering up multiple performances and costume changes throughout Sunday's show, Minaj also introduced a new song from her album, "The Pinkprint."
Ariana Grande left an impression sans her signature ponytail clad in elegant black gown. She gave an outstanding performance during the ceremony. Grande picked up her first EMAs for Best Female and Best Song for her single "Problem."
Ed Sheeran, Enrique Iglesias, Charli XCX, Calvin Harris, Kiesza, Royal Blood, Alicia Keys and well-known Irish rock group U2 also delivered oustanding performances.
The 2014 EMAs concluded extraordinarily, with Slash performing along with Myles Kennedy, Simon Neil and the Conspirators offered a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and concluded the ceremony. Check out video footage of the must-watch performance at MTV.co.uk.
Slash presented Osbourne with his global icon award.
"For four decades the Prince of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen," "This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats. But to me is a gentle man and a gentleman," said Slash while presenting the honor to Osbourne.
"I don't know where they got this icon s*** from," the rocker quipped. "But it's good to be here tonight. God bless you all, thank you for coming," said Osbourne.
Osbourne is the fifth recipient of the Global Icon Award, following Bon Jovi in 2010, Queen in 2011, Whitney Houston in 2012 and Eminem in 2013. Osbourne's solo career exposition, "Memoirs of a Madman," was released on Oct. 7, 2014. With this year's event finally over, the interest now turns to Milan, where the MTV EMAs will take place on Oct. 25, 2015.
