The best of British television gathered at London’s 0₂ Arena for the National Television Awards (NTA). British television awards ceremony is broadcast by the ITV network. Read on to find out about the winners.
The first ceremony was held in August 1995 and was hosted by Eamonn Holmes. From 1996 onwards, it was customarily held yearly in October and hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald. McDonald retired from the role after 13 years in 2008.
In 2010, the NTAs changed the timing of the event from October to January, and Dermot O’Leary took over as host of the ceremony. The 2010 ceremony was hosted at the London O₂ Arena for the first time.
This year, the series “EastEnders” become the most award-winning television show, with 31 wins including 11 awards for Most Popular Serial Drama. David Tennant has been honored with a special recognition at the National Television Awards. While “EastEnders” was the big winner at the night, “Gogglebox,” I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” and “X Factor” were also recognized.
