The recent NBA trade rumors suggested that Ricky Rubio, the starting point guard of the Minnesota Timberwolves, could be traded to the Houston Rockets. Whom would the Rockets give in exchange for Rubio? Read on for further details.
Cheat Sheet listed the four notable players – Zach Randolph of Memphis Grizzlies, Derrick Rose of Chicago Bulls, Isaiah Thomas of Boston Celtics, and Ricky Rubio of Minnesota Timberwolves, who could be traded before the 2016 trade deadline.
Based on a report from Fansided, the 25-year-old Rubio has been in the trade rumors since June 2015, and the Rockets is very much interested in making a deal with the starting point guard.
According to YIBADA, the Timberwolves’ primary idea for considering Rubio trade in last June was to get Rockets’ Tyus Jones. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers “drafted Jones at no. 24,” and traded him to the Timberwolves. Meanwhile, the Rockets moved on and got Ty Lawson, the All-Star caliber point guard, as a support for their shooting guard James Harden, in July.
As a result, the Rubio rumors involving the Timberwolves and the Rockets suppressed, and it restarted again now. However, now the problem is that the Rockets have no one in equal value as an exchange for Rubio.
It seems that it is impossible to trade Lawson until next summer. Moreover, other guards such as Corey Brewer, Patrick Beverley, Kevin McDaniels, and Jason Terry could not be traded until January. Hence, it is very difficult for the Rockets to provide suitable assets in return for Rubio.
Will the Houston Rockets finally make this deal successful by providing suitable assets to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Ricky Rubio? Well, if the Rockets are keen in acquiring Rubio, they might find a third team in order to make the deal successfully. However, it is still doubtful whether any team would be willing for the deal.
