According to AV Club, “True Detective” Season 2 star Adria Arjona is going to click her heels as Dorothy in the upcoming “Wizard of Oz” event series on NBC. Her role as Dorothy will be a “beauty scarred by past experiences.” She will then manage to get away from the cops with a k0 police dog in tow and finds herself in Oz.
In Oz, she will find the characters such as West. He is described a “drugged-out virtuoso filled with self-loathing,” North “Type-A manipulative perfectionist,” and the Wizard who is a politician.
“Emerald City” is set to be a darker version of “Wizard of Oz,”whixh was based on L. Frank Baum’s work. Last year, NBC has announced that they will be making this series and even had promotional art at Comic-Con 2014. Unfortunately, weeks later they pulled the plug and announced that they are not pushing thru with the show due to “creative differences” with showrunner Josh Friedkin. However, just recently the network took it back and announced that the show is officially back on again and it is going to happen.
The show got a 10-episode order under David Schulner, the producer of “The Event.”
Screen Crush, on the other hand, reported on the official synopsis for the NBC new series, “Emerald City.”
“In the blink of a tornado’s eye, 20-year old Dorothy Gale and her K9 police dog are transported to another world, one far removed from our own – a mystical land of competing kingdoms, lethal warriors, dark magic and a bloody battle for supremacy. This is the fabled Land of Oz in a way you’ve never seen before, where wicked witches don’t stay dead for long and a young girl becomes a headstrong warrior who holds the fate of kingdoms in their hands.”
