“NCIS: Los Angeles” Season 6 Episode 23 “Kolcheck, A.” aired last Monday, April 27, 2015 at 10:00 p.m. on CBS. In this episode, the team reinvestigated the case of the missing oil tanker after its crew were found dead on the beach. This led them to team up with an unlikely source, and in the process, NCIS Special Agent G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) learned a little bit more about Arkady Kolcheck’s (Vyto Ruginis) connection to his father. Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a photo shoot on the beach getting disturbed. It was after the shoot’s photographer bumped into a dead body that had just washed up on the shore.
At the operations center, Technical Operator Eric Beale (Barrett Foa) and Intelligence Analyst Nell Jones (Renee Felice Smith) informed them that the crew of Arkady Kolcheck’s (Vyto Ruginis) oil tanker. It had been used in a deal he brokered with the Berkely siblings, were found dead on the beach, as they had all been executed. Assistant Director Owen Granger (Miguel Ferrer) then told NCIS Special Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) and Los Angeles Police Detective Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) to question Elia Berkeley as her brother, Patrick, had been killed while in prison.
Meanwhile, NCIS Special Agent G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) and NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) broke into Arkady’s house, only to find that Arkady wasn’t home. Thanks to Arkady’s security camera, they discovered that he had taken several passports, and left in a taxi, which they had Eric track down. G then discovered that Arkady had clippings of his father’s work. He had helped smuggle refugees out of Russia and found an envelope with a coin that looked familiar. Meanwhile, after Kensi and Deeks found Elia dead, they told Nell to look into the hitman hired to kill the Berkeleys and Arkady. It was before, in the hopes that his employer was the one who had ordered this hit, and hopefully, he would have the oil tanker with him.
Meanwhile, Eric managed to track down the taxi and discovered that Arkady had driven out of the garage he had gone to with a new car. After Sam and G stopped him. He had been trying to run a red light, but he refused to talk to them, even after they brought him to the boat shed.
Kensi and Deeks then went to prison guard Sergeant Charles Turner’s (Ray Campbell) house after discovering that he had been employed by Arkady before and had called Arkady three times the previous day. They also discovered that the hitman they had asked about was working for a known criminal named Ivan Karposev (Paul Duke).
After knocking Turner out, the pair then visited him at the hospital. He told them that Berkeley had been killed after he had sent another inmate to pressure him into talking. He then told them that Patrick had said that Elia had a laptop with a GPS system connected to the ship. It would allow them to learn of where the oil tanker was.
The pair then went to Elia’s to look for the laptop but got rammed into with a car. Later, they discovered that Ivan beat the driver up. It wasfter he failed to find the laptop and had failed to kill them.
Meanwhile, Arkady refused to talk to Sam and tried to take a swing at him, which told them that he was desperate to get out. He then gave them the coordinates of the ship, which Sam went to verify. While Sam did this, G confronted him again about the coin. He had found a drawing of the same coin on the back of the clippings Arkady had given to him from Hans Schreiber, who had been a refugee from Russia. G then discovered that the coin was given to refugees to give to him when they got to America, to show that they were refugees and that they could be trusted. Arkady speculated that G’s father could have been one of those who gave the coins to the refugees.
After discovering that the coordinates were bogus, they discovered that Arkady was bargaining with him. They then agreed to let him come with them as long as he gave the correct location, which he did. He then revealed that Ivan was holding a woman crew member hostage.
There, Deeks and Kensi captured a man who had been rigging the boat to blow up, and discovered that they were too late. At the control room, Arkady became desperate, as the woman, Anna (Bar Paly), was his daughter.
However, as Ivan had already unloaded the oil onto three smaller vessels on its way to Russia for an auction and he had taken the girl. Arkady and the team decided to go to Russia to pursue Ivan, and to rescue Anna.
