Previously on “NCIS: Los Angeles” (“Exposure” Season 5 Episode 23), it was all about careful reporting so it would not cost you your life. ZNN reporter Dana Steele claimed that the JFL was behind the marine-sponsored charity event bombing. However, the homeland security argued that the organization has been on hiatus for the past year. At first, the reporter would not spill her beans about her source, then she did. unfortunately for the team, the source she pointed out was a quack. Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) went there, and he surely confessed everything to them—everything about aliens and that Dana was one of them.
Sam (LL Cool J) and Callen (Chris O’Donnell) followed Dana, and she was stabbed by a man named Bakri Deng. He said that he claimed the reporter because she refused to change her story. Bakri was from South Sudan, and while he would not give Kensi and Deeks information, they went around his apartment and checked out his stuff. It turned out that Bakri, along with his roommates, wrote letters, asking for help for their country. Sam finally get him to talk about his roommates whereabouts. They were at the State Department of the Los Angeles field office. Sam and Callen caught one, while the latter shot the other.
Their anger was fueled by their failure to get the US mediate for their country. Moreover, Bakri’s family was denied with US visas and was killed back home by the police in an open fire in a peaceful protest. The bombers felt that by planting an explosion would buy them some attention.
The sweetest part in this episode involved Nell (Renee Felice Smith) and Eric (Barrett Foa). While watching the bombing footage, Eric remarked that if you do not tell someone about how you feel about them, you may never get the chance. Nell agreed. Then Eric grabbed a sticky note and started writing, saying that he would put it out while he still can. Nell did the same. Before they exchange notes, both agreed not to talk about it. Well, the scene did not reveal the contents of their notes. But what was amusing were their reactions. Then Granger (Miguel Ferrer) came.
Granger and Hetty (Linda Hunt) talked about the team as they leave for some drinks. Granger asked Hetty if it somehow gets easier to send the team out, not knowing whether they would make it back alive. Hetty replied, “They always come back, Owen… until one day they don’t.”
