Read on to learn more about this episode.
The episode began with a flashback to Mobile, Alabama, in 2001. A young Chris LaSalle (Richard Meehan) told his older brother about, Savannah Kelly (Gillian Alexy), who was currently with him. However, they were interrupted as NCIS Agent Christopher La Salle (Lucas Black) got a call from his older brother, Cade Lambert (Clayne Crawford). He told him that he was in trouble as he had found his girlfriend, Wendy Stewart, dead in the trunk of his car.
After calling up NCIS Special Agent Dwayne “King” Pride (Scott Bakula), he told them that Cade had been set up. However, Pride told him to stay away from the case. He allowed Captain Jim Messier (Dylan Walsh) to bring Cade to the station for questioning. He told them that Wendy had been paranoid as of late because of some men in her past.
At the morgue, Dr. Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder) informed NCIS Special Agent Meredith “Merri” Brody (Zoe McLellan) that Wendy had been bound up by a rope and was strangled to death. A necklace with a charm to a voodoo goddess had been imprinted on her neck, as she had been wearing it. Cade was then arrested after Sebastian Lund (Rob Kerkovich) discovered Cade’s prints on the rope.
They then met up with Wendy’s mother. He told them about Wendy’s bad choice in men, including a guy from work and college. Pride then told La Salle to coordinate with undercover ATF Agent Sonja Percy (Shalita Grant) on another case. They would be free to investigate without La Salle interfering. After he met up with her, she told him that Navy issued guns were being sold by a Petty Officer to gangs, and that she had scheduled a buy with him for the next day.
Back at the morgue, Loretta informed Pride and Messier that somebody had had strangling Wendy as that person got off on strangling people. Sebastian then told them that Cade’s toxicology report was inconclusive. He and Loretta both agreed that alcohol, which he drank that night, and his medication to treat his bipolar disorder, could have caused him to become violent.
Meanwhile, Brody got nowhere when she showed the pictures of Wendy’s past boyfriends to the bartender at the bar where Wendy and Cade had been. She then got a call from La Salle who had broken into Wendy’s apartment. There, they discovered a camera bug and told Pride. She told La Salle to get back on the case with Percy, as they were going to do preliminary reconnaissance for the meet up the next day. Pride and Brody then went over to the house of Reid Gorie (Oliver Kieran Jones). He is a stalker who went to a rehabilitation center for some issues. He claimed that he was at an auction and gave them footage of the camera, which revealed that Cade had argued with Wendy.
In prison, Cade told Pride that he had gotten mad as Wendy wouldn’t tell him who she was afraid of. He told him that he had gotten some drinks, and then blacked out. The next thing he remembered was seeing Wendy’s dead body in his trunk.
They then arrested Gorie after realizing that he had doctored the footage, but his alibi checked out. Meanwhile, La Salle arrested the Petty Officer selling guns out to street gang members.
Back at the office, they decided to go over the case again. After reviewing the pictures, Brody realized that the necklace had been placed there by the killer because of some ritual. He discovered that there were three other unsolved murders like it. She then decided to go to the house of the only witness, Eloise Sanchez (Molly Conarro), whose boyfriend turned out to be Kai Bryant (Michael Graziadei). He forced Brody at gunpoint to an a room with candles and voodoo dolls.
It turned out that Bryant had drugged Cade and set him up. After discovering that he lived with Eloise, who had been in the psychological ward of juvenile hall, Pride and La Salle rushed to save Brody, who had managed to escape, and shot Eloise and Bryant dead.
Afterwards, Cade decided to go back home to Alabama and remembered that La Salle said that he would marry Savannah someday.
Meanwhile, Percy told Pride that Paul Jenks (John Livingston) was planning a hit on someone in the city.
Later that night, Jenkins went to La Salle’s place to get a message to Pride, only to find Savannah there, at whom he pointed a gun at.
