“Fury” actor Shia LaBeouf stirred controversy performing nearly naked in a bizarre dance routine with “Dance Moms’” Maddie Ziegler for Sia’s new music video “Elastic Heart.”
A firestorm of criticism erupted when Shia LaBeouf appeared almost nude in a performance with 12-year-old “Dance Moms” ingénue Maddie Ziegler in Sia’s music video for her song, “Elastic Heart.”
Accusations of pedophilia surrounded the clip, which features the 28-year-old “Transformers” alum dressed in nothing but a pair of flesh-colored skin-tight boxer briefs while gyrating in an avant-garde poetry-in-motion routine with young ballerina, Maddie Ziegler.
Sia’s “Elastic Heart” was featured as part of the soundtrack for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” and in it, LaBeouf and Ziegler do a raw animalistic dance inside a gigantic cage, doing a lot of what viewers have termed “inappropriate touching.”
Twelve-year-old Ziegler performs in what appears to be the same flesh-colored leotard and white blond wig she wore cavorting in an empty apartment for Sia’s Grammy-nominated “Chandelier,” a balletic mash-up personifying the Australian singer’s battle with alcoholism.
The music video has upset fans of the trio, who have criticized the strangely sexual poetically inspired visual as encouraging pedophilia. In it, both LaBeouf and Ziegler, scantily-dressed and smeared in dirt, breathe heavily, staring at each other with a gamut of intense emotions.
LaBeouf has appeared in many other controversial projects, including going completely nude for Icelandic band, Sigur Ros’ 2012 music video, and deflowering both holes of Stacy Martin’s character in Lars von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac” in 2013.
In “Elastic Heart,” he resembles a sinisterly manic King Leonidas from “300” while he hangs from the cage ceiling, and manhandles Ziegler in their interpretative dance routine. Champion dancer Ziegler leaps up on his shoulders and straddles him in their strange tussle that includes bared teeth and biting.
Despite the performance being billed as the turbulent relationship between a father and his daughter, the massive outcry over the pedophilic undertones in the music video has Sia apologizing to fans on Twitter.
I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody. 🙏

Ziegler, who rose to fame in reality show “Dance Moms,” named her co-star her “buddy” and praised his emotionally charged presentation, despite LaBeouf not having any formal dance training.
