“Kick-Ass 2” helmer Jeff Wadlow has turned in a script based on the ’80s classic comic, animation and toy franchise “Masters of the Universe.” Read on for further details.

According to a tweet from Senior Vice President of Production at Columbia Pictures DeVon Franklin, “Kick-Ass 2” helmer Jeff Wadlow, who was working on the script last November, has finally turned in his work on Christmas Eve. Wadlow, who is also attached to direct a film adaptation of “X-Force” from Fox, is attached to helm the film which has still no official release date.

The project will be the second  live-action pic of the ’80s franchise, which was released theatrically in the United States on Aug. 7, 1987 directed by Gary Goddard and starred Dolph Lundgren as the iconic He-Man alongside Frank Langella, who played his nemesis, Skeletor. The film also starred Jon Cypher, Chelsea Field, Billy Barty and Courteney Cox.

“Masters of the Universe” was a media franchise created by Mattel featuring a vast line-up of characters, with its main premise revolving around the conflict between the heroic He-Man and the evil Skeletor on planet Eternia. Armed with his “Sword of Power”, Prince Adam can transform into the mighty “He-Man” by raising his Power Sword and proclaiming, “By the power of Grayskull…” Since its initial launch, the franchise has spawned a variety of products, including six lines of action figures, four animated television series, several comic series and a feature film.

In its attempt to diversify and to bring young female audiences, the franchise created a new line Princess of Power, She-Ra, a feminine warrior-woman heroine and twin sister of He-man. Just as Prince Adam transforms into He-Man with the use of his Sword of Power, Adora transforms into She-Ra via her Sword of Protection, a replica of He-Man’s sword featuring a smooth white gem in its hilt. Adora’s transformation into She-Ra is similarly triggered by holding her sword over her head and by uttering her own unique invocation: “For the honor of Grayskull… I AM SHE-RA!” Unlike He-Man’s sword, however, She-Ra’s possesses the ability to transform into different weapons and accessories, such as a lasso, a shield or a flaming blade, when commanded by She-Ra.

That’s it for our latest scoop on Jeff Wadlow’s “Masters of the Universe.” For more updates on celebrities, events, TV shows and upcoming movies, stay tuned here on Movie News Guide (MNG).
