Lionsgate’s upcoming “Power Rangers” movie was heading into the casting phase. “The Martian” and “Terra Nova” actress Naomi Scott has been selected for playing the role of the new Pink Ranger.
Each Power Ranger has brought something different in terms of capability and personality. You would have seen the Homecoming King Green/White Ranger, the universally likeable Red Ranger, the cool Black Ranger, and the Yellow and Blue Rangers. Now, the Pink Ranger! According to GQ, the Pink Ranger is a rare combination – a quiet killer, fierce, and surprisingly sexist. The Pink Ranger is “sexy but with agency.”
The 22-year-old Naomi Scott was selected as the right choice for the Pink Ranger as she “could make you fall in love with her,” and then “proceed to kick your ass into another dimension.”
The actress inspired Lionsgate to choose her for the role with her awesome performance in the Disney Channel Italy series “Life Bites,” Disney Chanel’s TV Movie “Lemonade Mouth,” FOX series “Terra Nova,” Ridley Scott’s “The Martian” movie, and the upcoming Chilean miners movie “The 33,” reported COLLIDER.
THE MARY SUE reported that the “recently posted casting notice” for the Yellow and Pink Ranger concentrated more on their personalities and capabilities rather than giving importance to “looks or romantic relationships.” So, for sure, we could expect that the Pink ranger role would give the opportunity for Scott to shine.
Based on a report from VARIETY, the new “Power Rangers” movie disclosed the Pink Ranger casting on its official Instagram and Twitter accounts.
Dean Israelite is the director, Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz are the scriptwriters, and Haim Saban, Brian Casentini & Allison Shearmur are the producers of the upcoming film. The Lionsgate movie is expected to hit the theaters on January 13, 2017.
